What are your thoughts on [name]Eira[/name]? Which pronunciation do you prefer - eye-ra or ay-ra, and which do you find to be more intuitive?
I like the name. I first saw it and pronounced it as eye-ra, which I like. I don’t like ay-ra… I think if you live in the U.S. the most common pronunciation will be eye-ra
I pronounced it “ear-ah”. Personally, I’m not a fan.
I guess I would say ay-rah, but to be honest, neither was intuitive. I had to look at it for a minute.
I would pronounce it Eye-ra - like [name]Ira[/name] which to me is an old man’s name!
I like it - nice meaning, nice letters. The only thing I don’t like is the pronunciation (either version, though it should be eye-rah as it’s Welsh).
I love it! The Welsh pronunciation is AIR-ah right? I think that’s very pretty, but I prefer the Norse pronunciation EYE-rah. Very pretty! I pronounce it EYE - rah before any other way.
If you’re going for the Welsh version, I prefer Eirwen – [name]AIR[/name]-wen.
I like it,it’s nice to see a Welsh name being discussed, being Welsh and all. The Welsh pronounciation is Eye-ruh in the south and most of the west, can’t vouch for the north. There’s a fairly diverse array of accents for such a small place. The pronounciation of words such as [name]Eira[/name] vary more than tradiational names like [name]Angharad[/name] etc.
I say it AY-ruh, and I [name]LOVE[/name] it!
I love it - I say it more like air-ah…almost like a cross between ay and air, but it might be where I’m from.
I’ve never seen the name [name]Eira[/name] before, but I like it! For me, ay-ra is more intuitive, but I think both pronunciations are nice.
[name]Eira[/name] is lovely and I would like it if people pronounced it like air-ah. I dislike it pronounced like [name]Ira[/name] or Ayra.
I thought it was ‘[name]AIR[/name]-ah’. That’s the only way I like it, anyway - EYE-rah sounds male and ‘AY-rah’ is harsh.
I say Ay- rah, which would be closest to the Swedish pronunciation.
I say Ayra or (y)eer-ah.
I pronounce it Eye-ra. I really like, but I like Eirlys more
