[name_f]My[/name_f] grandmother’s name was [name_f]Hilda[/name_f]. She was Italian. I feel like [name_f]Hilda[/name_f] is still a little harsh sounding for a comeback in the U.S. right now, but [name_f]Elda[/name_f] is the Italian variation of the name. It sounds a little softer and I think it might fit in a little better with all of the vintage names making a comeback. [name_u]Haven[/name_u]'t brought it up to the husband yet.
I actually kinda love this! I’ve never heard [name_f]Elda[/name_f] before but I think it’s pretty and a sweet honour for your grandmother. (For what it’s worth, I love [name_f]Hilda[/name_f] too and I think it could definitely make a comeback!)
I don’t immediately hear “elder” - like PP said it isn’t a word I commonly use so it didn’t initially come to mind, and I think you can pronounce the -a sound in a way that they don’t sound the same.
I like the suggestion of [name_f]Elda[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]!
[name_f]Elda[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Elda[/name_f] [name_u]Marie[/name_u]
[name_f]Elda[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_f]Elda[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]
[name_f]Elda[/name_f] [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
[name_f]Elda[/name_f] [name_f]Mauve[/name_f]
[name_f]Elda[/name_f] [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]
[name_f]Elda[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
[name_f]Elda[/name_f] [name_f]Thisbe[/name_f]
[name_f]Elda[/name_f] [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u]
[name_f]Elda[/name_f] [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f]
[name_f]Elda[/name_f] [name_f]Opaline[/name_f]
[name_f]Elda[/name_f] [name_u]Louise[/name_u]
[name_f]Elda[/name_f] [name_f]Imogene[/name_f]
Both [name_f]Hilda[/name_f] and [name_f]Elda[/name_f] feel heavy to me although perfectly useable, but maybe you would like [name_f]Mathilde[/name_f] (pronounced ma-TEEL which I think is lighter and quite pretty.
I actually really like it 🤷 [name_f]Elda[/name_f] reminds me of an enchanted [name_m]Forrest[/name_m]. It feels a bit mystical. Go for it. Inspired.
[name_f]Elda[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] would be beautiful
I can’t hear [name_f]Elda[/name_f] without hearing “elder” and it doesn’t help that the name itself is kind of vintage sounding. I really can’t get past that association .
Ooh I like [name_f]Elda[/name_f]! I associate it with elves and elderberries which is nice imagery. I agree that [name_f]Hilda[/name_f] would be a braver choice, though I love [name_f]Hilda[/name_f] and I’m excited to see that coming back too. I love @floatinthesky’s suggestion of [name_f]Elda[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f].
