I’ve just gotten through Sense and Sensibility, and I’ve absolutely fallen in love with the Dashwood sisters. Particularly [name]Elinor[/name], she really spoke to me. I’ve had [name]Arianne[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Kate[/name] on my list for the longest time, and I thought [name]Eleanor[/name] could be a nod to [name]Elinor[/name] Dashwood, but with that spelling, it seemed more a nod to [name]Jane[/name] [name]Austen[/name]'s [name]Eleanor[/name] Tilney rather than [name]Elinor[/name] Dashwood. While I liked Northanger [name]Abbey[/name], and I love the [name]Eleanor[/name] spelling (prefer it, actually), it doesn’t seem to have as strong a connection to the lovely Miss Dashwood.
I’m just wondering what others think–would you prefer to see [name]Arianne[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Kate[/name] or [name]Arianne[/name] [name]Elinor[/name] [name]Kate[/name]?
I prefer the look of [name]Arianne[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Kate[/name], I think it looks more classical and sophisticated where as [name]Arianne[/name] [name]Elinor[/name] [name]Kate[/name] looks more trendy, and modern.
I am a huge [name]Austen[/name] fan. I have read Sense and Sensibility I don’t even know how many times. [name]Elinor[/name] Dashwood is my favorite [name]Austen[/name] heroine (yes, even more than [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Bennett[/name]!) [name]Elinor[/name] is on my list because of that. I love the name, the meaning, and the reference to [name]Austen[/name]. For me also, [name]Elinor[/name] gets the ell-in-ore pronunciation in Spanish more than [name]Eleanor[/name].
Definitely [name]Eleanor[/name]. Looks so much better - classier, more sophisticated. You can still pay homage to [name]Elinor[/name] by virtue of using a name of the same sound.
[name]Elinor[/name]! PLEASE pick [name]Elinor[/name]! I’ve had a name crush on [name]Elinor[/name] ever since I read Sense and Sensibility, and as a teenager I was obsessed with old television shows, so I also really loved [name]Elinor[/name] [name]Donahue[/name] from Father Knows Best and The [name]Andy[/name] [name]Griffith[/name] Show. [name]Elinor[/name] is on my very short list for girls
Maybe it’s because I’m so used to your combo the way it is but [name]Arianne[/name] [name]Elinor[/name] [name]Kate[/name] just looks so wrong to me. [name]Arianne[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Kate[/name] is just to beautiful to mess with. I agree with the pp’s too that [name]Eleanor[/name] seems so much sophisticated.
I prefer the [name]Eleanor[/name] spelling but I think if you want to name her after the character you would have to use the [name]Elinor[/name] spelling. [name]Both[/name] are nice I am just used to seeing it the [name]Eleanor[/name] way.
I prefer [name]Arianne[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Kate[/name]. I’ve seen [name]Eleanor[/name] as the spelling for so long (having never read Sense and Sensibility), that [name]Elinor[/name] looks odd to me. I do think that [name]Elinor[/name] could still work, though.
I love Sense and Sensibility, though I have not yet read Northanger [name]Abbey[/name]. Like you, I prefer [name]Eleanor[/name]'s traditional spelling. However, I don’t think the spelling is a huge component being a middle name in this case. If it were the first name and you wanted to invoke Miss Dashwood, then I would definitely switch to [name]Elinor[/name]. But either version would work in the middle.
lol, I know! I thought I would warm up to [name]Elinor[/name], but every time I look at [name]Arianne[/name] [name]Elinor[/name] [name]Kate[/name], I just keep thinking, “No, no, no! That’s so wrong!” haha.
I am leaning toward keeping the [name]Eleanor[/name] spelling, and just have it in honor of both of [name]Austen[/name]'s Elinors/Eleanors? I mean, I feel like [name]Eleanor[/name] obviously honors [name]Eleanor[/name] Tilney, but as [name]Elinor[/name] Dashwood is my preferred character (I mean, [name]Eleanor[/name] Tilney’s lovely, but she isn’t developed anywhere near as much as [name]Elinor[/name] Dashwood, and you don’t really get to know her personality, either… She seems lovely, but she’s just not developed enough for me to really care about [name]Eleanor[/name] Tilney…), I sort of wonder if [name]Eleanor[/name] honors my love of [name]Jane[/name] [name]Austen[/name] very well at all. WDYT? Would [name]Arianne[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Kate[/name] nicely honor both of [name]Austen[/name]'s Eleanors?
