Hi! [name_f]Loving[/name_f] the name [name_f]Lainey[/name_f] lately (Lainey [name_f]Kate[/name_f]) and also LOVE [name_f]Elena[/name_f]. I feel like its one of those names with infinite spelling options so I’d love to get some opinions! What is your favorite spelling for Elena/Alaina/Alayna and would you change the spelling knowing you’re using the nn [name_f]Lainey[/name_f]?
My favourite spelling is [name_f]Elena[/name_f], because I know a little girl by this name, and she’s the sweetest thing. For the nickname [name_f]Lainey[/name_f] (which I love by the way) I’d probably use Elaina/Elaine.
I love [name_f]Elena[/name_f], I wouldn’t change the spelling for the nickname because lany/lanie looks off, [name_f]Lainey[/name_f] is the more recognisable spelling.
I would probably choose [name_f]Elaina[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] for [name_f]Lainey[/name_f].
I would use [name_f]Elaina[/name_f] or [name_f]Elaine[/name_f]. [name_f]Beautiful[/name_f] name!
I like [name_f]Elena[/name_f] the best
I think [name_f]Elena[/name_f] is the most classic spelling and would work fine with [name_f]Lainey[/name_f] as the nn, but [name_f]Elaina[/name_f] also works!
I prefer [name_f]Elena[/name_f] the most out of all the spelling variations. To me, it’s the most classic and sophisticated version of the name. Alaina/Alayna/Alena all start to feel too trendy to me.
I think [name_f]Lainey[/name_f] could still work as a nickname for [name_f]Elena[/name_f], but [name_f]Elaina[/name_f] nn [name_f]Lainey[/name_f] might be more intuitive.
I like [name_f]Elena[/name_f] best – simple and sleek. I think [name_f]Elena[/name_f] ‘Lainey’ works fine (a bit like [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] → [name_m]Kit[/name_m] or [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] → [name_f]Milly[/name_f]) but if I didn’t use that, I’d go with [name_f]Elaina[/name_f]
I know an [name_f]Elaina[/name_f] and I really love that spelling. It feels easiest to know how to pronounce.
[name_f]Elena[/name_f] could be “Ellen-uh”.
I personally prefer [name_f]Elena[/name_f], as it’s classic, elegant, and will age beautifully. I also love that she could choose whether to go by [name_f]Elena[/name_f], [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], [name_f]Lena[/name_f], [name_f]Leni[/name_f], or [name_f]Lainey[/name_f] as she gets older.
If your main nickname will always be [name_f]Lainey[/name_f], I’d probably spell it [name_f]Alaina[/name_f] or [name_f]Elaina[/name_f] - depending on if you wanted it to be more ‘uh-lay-nuh’ or ‘el-ay-nuh’. It feels the most intuitive way to get to [name_f]Lainey[/name_f] without people second-guessing it. I also think [name_f]Elena[/name_f] can sometimes create pronunciation questions, as some people may say it “el-AY-nuh” while others say "el-eh-nuh.”
[name_f]Lainey[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] is absolutely adorable either way!
My favourite is [name_f]Elena[/name_f] for sure. [name_f]Lainey[/name_f] is a more out of the box nickname, but it could work! Nicknames don’t always have to be obvious, so if you love it, go for it ![]()
