Elena and pronounciation

Which pronounciation do you prefer and why? And specifically British Berries ( I need your views on pronounciation) because I am British myself and I am interested in hearing what the most instinctive pronounciation of [name_f]Elena[/name_f] is here in the UK.

For me or would be E-lay-nah

The other way of E-LEN-a feels like it should be Eleaner or something like [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] but with an A.

Thanks

i’m british !!

i would say elena as eh-LEN-uh, while eleanor is more like EL-uh-nuh (or el-uh-nor, but that last syllable is frequently dropped).

i can’t easily read elena as eh-LAYN-uh (though i know it’s a common pronunciation) and if i heard that pronunciation, i would probably guess alaina.

I’m not British, but I say eh-LEH-na. Emphasis on the second syllable purely because of @EJpuddlejumper’s pronunciation, I used to say EL-eh-na!

Ok if anyone feels comfortable I could really do with some voice notes here. [name_u]Or[/name_u] maybe I’ll Google lol or YouTube it

Our last baby was almost an [name_f]Elena[/name_f]. We would have pronounced it El-ay-na. I think it’s a beautiful name. (I’m Canadian, for reference).

It’s so pretty. It’s a name I like for a middle name spot. Would really like to find something Greek as my boys middle names are Greek and I like the cohesion there.

I’m British and I like [name_f]Elena[/name_f] as Eh-LAY-nuh, so that’s how I say it. I just really like that ‘ay’ sound. I’ve also warmed to Eh-LEH-nuh (thanks to One [name_u]Day[/name_u] At a Time), but it doesn’t come as naturally to me.

I’m American and I have a friend (also American) named [name_f]Elena[/name_f] and it’s pronounced as ‘Eh-lay-nuh’

I’m prob 80% favouring this pronounciation.

I think I struggle or a bit put of with names which have multiple pronounciations.

I was watching the Olympics and there was an [name_f]Elena[/name_f], they pronounced it Ihl- ley- na
