Elfrida

[name_f]Elfrida[/name_f] [el-[name_u]FREE[/name_u]-da] is from the Old English Ælfþryð meaning “elf strength”. The name was common amongst Anglo-[name_m]Saxon[/name_m] nobility and became rare after the [name_m]Norman[/name_m] Conquest. It was revived briefly during the late 19th century in both [name_f]England[/name_f] and Germany. For a bit of astronomical fun, a minor planet called 618 Elfriede orbits our sun.

Thanks!

[name_f]Elfrida[/name_f] [name_u]Wren[/name_u], [name_f]Elfrida[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] and [name_f]Elfrida[/name_f] [name_f]Lark[/name_f] are great!

I like [name_f]Elfrida[/name_f]. I personally prefer [name_f]Frida[/name_f], but I like the meaning and history behind [name_f]Elfrida[/name_f] and can understand the appeal.

Combos I like are the same as PP:
[name_f]Elfrida[/name_f] [name_f]Lark[/name_f]
[name_f]Elfrida[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
[name_f]Elfrida[/name_f] [name_u]Wren[/name_u]

I think a one syllable middle flows nicely and I don’t know about a middle that starts with F. It sounds a bit F heavy if that makes sense. Though [name_f]Elfrida[/name_f] [name_f]Fawn[/name_f] is quite whimsical.

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps

[name_f]Imo[/name_f] I think people could think this is made up because [name_f]Frida[/name_f] is an established name most people know of as well as [name_f]Elle[/name_f], [name_f]Ella[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], etc. Also I see bullying potential with “Elf” and its really similar sounding to the witch character Elphaba. I prefer [name_f]Freya[/name_f], [name_f]Frida[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Freya[/name_f], [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f], [name_f]Elowen[/name_f], or even [name_f]Euphemia[/name_f] which to me is the most similar option. However, I do like that you can get [name_f]Effie[/name_f] as a nickname out of [name_f]Elfrida[/name_f].

I like [name_f]Elfrida[/name_f]. It does have a very strong old-fashioned feel to it, but not so much in a heavy and dated way. It has this great timeworn whimsy to it, which seems to liven it up nicely to work modern day.

My favourite combos from your list are [name_f]Elfrida[/name_f] [name_f]Marigold[/name_f], [name_f]Elfrida[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_f]Elfrida[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Elfrida[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], [name_f]Elfrida[/name_f] [name_u]Wren[/name_u] & [name_f]Elfrida[/name_f] [name_f]Lark[/name_f]. I think they all have a nice smooth flow, a great sound, and a beautiful, bright warmth to them. If I had to choose just one, I’d go with [name_f]Elfrida[/name_f] [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] (which just has a ‘tiny fantasy folk dancing under a canopy of sunflowers swaying overhead’ type imagery to me).

@greyblue, Thank you!

@natawa, I’m honestly surprised to see someone else likes [name_f]Elfrida[/name_f]. I can understand the preference for [name_f]Frida[/name_f], given that it’s more familiar.

I agree that [name_f]Elfrida[/name_f] [name_f]Fawn[/name_f] is quite whimsical and that it may be a bit F heavy. It’s something to consider since it is one of my top [name_f]Elfrida[/name_f] combos.

Thank you!

@em.estelle, I can see how someone might think of [name_f]Elfrida[/name_f] as made up or maybe a character name since it does have that whimsical feel to it.

The “Elf” bit may have a slight possibility of bullying, especially if a bearer were smaller…or maybe prominent ears? Wicked isn’t something I’ve ever gotten into so I don’t mind the Elphaba similarity either. I absolutely appreciate you sharing them with me though!

[name_f]Euphemia[/name_f] is a great alternative. It’s a name I’ve enjoyed for a while so I can see the similarities.

Thanks!

I love how you’ve described the imagery you have that is associated with [name_f]Elfrida[/name_f] [name_f]Marigold[/name_f]. It perfectly fits my own imagery of that combo, and really, the name [name_f]Elfrida[/name_f] in general.

[name_m]Just[/name_m] a little bump. I’d love some more opinions on [name_f]Elfrida[/name_f].

[name_f]Elfrida[/name_f] is one of my all-time favourite names!!! My combo of choice is [name_f]Elfrida[/name_f] [name_f]Snow[/name_f].

From your list, I absolutely love [name_f]Elfrida[/name_f] [name_u]Wren[/name_u], [name_f]Elfrida[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] and [name_f]Elfrida[/name_f] [name_f]Lenore[/name_f].

I love @sunniva’s description of “timeworn whimsy” - perfect!

@freddiethepink, [name_f]Elfrida[/name_f] [name_f]Snow[/name_f] is very sweet. I considered it for my list but I have a dog named [name_f]Snow[/name_f] so I couldn’t keep it.

It is the perfect description for it, isn’t it?

Thank you!
