We are about to have our third child and are considering the name [name_f]Eliana[/name_f]. Brother and sister are [name_m]Ezra[/name_m] and [name_f]Susannah[/name_f]. We are worried about how popular the nickname [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] seems to be. [name_f]Do[/name_f] others know multiple Ellies/Elianas?
Also wondering if a sibset of [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] and [name_f]Eliana[/name_f] is not the best because of the “annah” and “ana.”
Middle name would be [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] (so [name_f]Eliana[/name_f] [name_f]Miriam[/name_f]), though we are also considering [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] as a first name.
Last name is a one syllable color.
(We were also considering [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] but heard from too many people that if she decided she wanted to go by [name_f]Rose[/name_f] or [name_f]Rosie[/name_f], it’s probably not the best with [name_m]Greene[/name_m]).
[name_f]Elora[/name_f] is also in contention.
Thanks for any input!
The least important first: I would be second guessing an E name if you’re having 3 kids as means one S name. I would ignore that concern if you love the name!
To me, [name_f]Eliana[/name_f] is almost a mash up or otherwise connecting name to [name_m]Ezra[/name_m] and [name_f]Susannah[/name_f]. They’re all biblical names and they match well - I don’t think it matters whether there is an annah and ana, most of my brothers have the same -on/-an ending to their names.
I wouldn’t use [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] with green, but it’s not actually that much of a big deal, the garden theme is pretty!
To me, [name_f]Elora[/name_f] goes well with [name_f]Susannah[/name_f], but less immediately well with [name_m]Ezra[/name_m]. [name_f]Elora[/name_f] and [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] have a mythical, superwoman theme when they’re paired.
I don’t love [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] though [name_f]Miri[/name_f] is a very pretty nn and would sound great with [name_m]Greene[/name_m]. Maybe keep on the list!
So, I would go for [name_f]Eliana[/name_f], but with [name_f]Elora[/name_f] as a back-up. The nice thing about both is that you needn’t use [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] for either. [name_f]Eliana[/name_f] could be shortened to [name_u]Lee[/name_u]-[name_u]Lee[/name_u], [name_f]Lil[/name_f] or [name_f]Lana[/name_f], and [name_f]Elora[/name_f] to [name_f]Lora[/name_f] or [name_f]Lola[/name_f].
I like the fact that [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] keeps the vibe of your other two names, but doesn’t blend in with them. It sounds great with your last name, too.
[name_f]Eliana[/name_f] is nice, but it does feel like a mash-up between [name_m]Ezra[/name_m] and [name_f]Susannah[/name_f].
[name_f]Elora[/name_f] is less a mash up.
Other ideas:
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Deborah[/name_f]
[name_f]Laurel[/name_f]
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliana[/name_f] and [name_f]Susannah[/name_f]'s shared ending doesn’t bother me too much. Though [name_f]Eliana[/name_f] does feel more modern versus vintage [name_f]Susannah[/name_f]? As does [name_f]Elora[/name_f]. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing, to have different styles. [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] would be a more vintage choice, and I don’t mind [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] [name_m]Greene[/name_m]. Overall I like [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] the best as a combo.
I prefer [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] with [name_m]Ezra[/name_m] & [name_f]Susannah[/name_f].
My youngest sister is [name_f]Eliana[/name_f] sometimes “[name_f]Ellie[/name_f]”, and before she was born, I’d never known anyone named [name_f]Eliana[/name_f] or [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]. Now, I feel like I meet so many little girls named [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]. Most are short for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] or [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], not [name_f]Eliana[/name_f] but it’s still very popular, at least in my area. An [name_f]Eliana[/name_f] could also be called [name_f]Lana[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f], or [name_f]Lia[/name_f].
My mom is actually [name_f]Susana[/name_f], and it’s never been an issue having an [name_f]Eliana[/name_f] and [name_f]Susana[/name_f], but mother-daughter is different than sisters. (ALSO had a dog named [name_m]Ezra[/name_m] when I was younger, and it never was confusing but again, dog-sister is different than brother-sister).
I agree with the PP who said [name_f]Eliana[/name_f] sounds a bit like a combination of [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] and [name_m]Ezra[/name_m]. Would both sisters go by their full names? Because my mom is almost exclusively called Sus (“sooze”) by friends and family, so her name is not confused for [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] or [name_f]Eliana[/name_f].
If it comes down to it and you can’t imagine calling your daughter anything but [name_f]Eliana[/name_f], then I think it’s fine. I think [name_f]Elora[/name_f] and [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] are good backup names.
The way I say these names, [name_f]Eliana[/name_f] and [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] are slant rhymes. [name_m]Ezra[/name_m], [name_f]Eliana[/name_f], and [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] also share too many sounds for my taste. [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] would be perfect!
I really love [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] as a sister name for [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] & [name_m]Ezra[/name_m]. Perfection!
Thanks! We will keep thinking about it, and are also considering [name_f]Lilah[/name_f] and [name_f]Aviva[/name_f]. =)
