Here is a list of my current favorite boy names. While I like them, I am constantly rotating which is my “stand-out.” Please help me by eliminating 3 (and explaining WHY - i.e. too popular, doesn’t fit with sibling [name]Nora[/name], etc.) and suggest 3 new names that you think I would like.
[name]Ewan[/name] – I’m not the fondest of a name with the ‘ew’ sound in it =/
[name]Lyle[/name] – I don’t mind the spelling [name]Lyall[/name], but [name]Lyle[/name]… I’m not sure. just grates against me for some reason.
[name]Keith[/name] – sounds like a person who would unabashedly wear a mullet
[name]Keith[/name] - maybe a family name? If so, I apologize, but it’s really dated.
[name]Craig[/name] - also feels dated to me.
[name]Kai[/name] - I don’t see this as fitting with [name]Nora[/name].
[name]Fintan[/name] - far less common and you can still use the nn [name]Fin[/name]/[name]Finn[/name]. Actually though you could already do this with [name]Griffin[/name] from your list. [name]Nora[/name] and [name]Griffin[/name] nn [name]Finn[/name]. I love it.
[name]Donovan[/name] - handsome name, cute nn option of [name]Van[/name].
[name]Ivan[/name] - has similar elements to [name]Ian[/name], [name]Owen[/name], [name]Gavin[/name], etc. so maybe you’ll like it.
[name]Keith[/name] - I find this very dated, plus it’s also close to the start of [name]Cathleen[/name].
[name]Kai[/name] - Much more modern and trendy than the vintage [name]Nora[/name].
[name]Leland[/name] - Very surnamey and it just looks awkward.
[name]Luca[/name] - I just find [name]Nora[/name] and [name]Luca[/name] too matchy with the endings.
Suggestions:
[name]Leon[/name] - Has the same start as [name]Leland[/name] but fits much better with [name]Nora[/name].
[name]Peter[/name] - I find this to be in the same style as [name]Simon[/name], though I’m not sure if you’ll find the -ra and -er endings too close, it’ll depend on your accent. Would probably work if American, not if British.
[name]Wesley[/name] - I also associate this name with [name]Simon[/name] for some reason.
[name]Lyle[/name] - Personally it’s too out there to go with [name]Nora[/name].
[name]Lachlan[/name] - See Above.
[name]Griffin[/name] - I dont like Surnames as kid’s first names. - Sorry if it’s a family name Middle is ok though.
[name]Love[/name]: [name]Declan[/name], [name]Callum[/name] and [name]Lachlan[/name]. I think all of these go great with [name]Nora[/name] and they are not very common.
[name]Don[/name]'t love (eliminate): [name]Lyle[/name], [name]Harry[/name], and [name]Ewan[/name].
[name]Lyle[/name]: I don’t like names like [name]Lyle[/name] or [name]Miles[/name]. I just don’t find them appealing
[name]Harry[/name]: Too old man-ish and I think there is too much teasing potential
[name]Ewan[/name]: Too hard to say.
Suggestions: [name]Roman[/name], [name]Ezra[/name], and [name]Soren[/name]
My favorites on your list are [name]Sebastien[/name], [name]Simon[/name], and [name]Griffin[/name]. I think [name]Griffin[/name] and [name]Nora[/name] are just perfect together.
I would eliminate:
[name]Kai[/name]- It’s glaringly different than [name]Nora[/name].
[name]Keith[/name] and [name]Craig[/name]- [name]Both[/name] of these seem boring and dated to me.
I would add:
[name]Leander[/name]: I prefer it to [name]Leland[/name]. It has the vintage charm, softness, and elegance of [name]Nora[/name].
[name]Keats[/name]: Instead of [name]Keith[/name] or [name]Kai[/name]. It’s a one syllable K name that is unusual, but sounds current, a nice, sophisticated literary name. [name]Nora[/name] and [name]Keats[/name] would be adorable.
[name]Seamus[/name]: [name]One[/name] of my favorite Irish names.
Eliminate:
[name]Lachlan[/name]- Doesn’t fit well with [name]Nora[/name] in my opinion.
[name]Craig[/name]- Sounds a bit 50 year old man to me, and [name]Nora[/name] & [name]Craig[/name] don’t sound right to me.
[name]Kai[/name]- [name]Nora[/name] and [name]Kai[/name] are two completely different styles of names.
Suggestions: [name]Noah[/name] (if you don’t mind the rhyming of [name]Noah[/name] and [name]Nora[/name]), [name]Jack[/name], [name]Gideon[/name]
I love your list! A lot of them are very stylish with a bit of an edge. As a result, the three I would drop are the ones that seem to be less interesting:
Keith: My great uncle’s name. He’s a farmer. So I see an old farmer.
Bradley: There is nothing wrong with this name, but it feels a little dated and common.
John: This was going to be my name if I was a boy. My mom is a huge name nut but I can never figure out why she loved John so much. It’s so boring!
I suggest: Eamon (like Lachlan), Theo (a classic nickname with revival cred like Harry), Eoin (You have 3 variations on John already–John, Ian, and Ewan–here’s another.
