I love how unconventional and mythological your names are! Great list.
My biggest piece of advice is don’t use [name_f]Sappho[/name_f] as a first name. I’m a lesbian and you should know that the name [name_f]Sappho[/name_f] is extremely associated with lesbian culture and history. The term “lesbian” actually comes from the fact that [name_f]Sappho[/name_f] lived on the island of Lesbos. If I met a girl named [name_f]Sappho[/name_f], I would assume her parents were lesbians, and if they aren’t, it strikes me as a little odd. It’s a great middle name option though! [name_f]Sappho[/name_f] was an amazing poet and historical figure. [name_m]Just[/name_m]…maybe not the best first name option, since she may come to resent that association over time. But again, it would be an excellent middle name choice.
Here are my other thoughts:
Names I like -->
Elsinore - Very cool name! I love this as a first name idea. It’s a great spin on the more common [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], while having its own history and flair.
[name_f]Morgana[/name_f] - I like this name, but the mythology surrounding it is a bit negative, isn’t it? If I recall correctly it means something along the lines of “lady of darkness” and she was [name_m]King[/name_m] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]'s main nemesis (as you know). But it could be a cool name to use as a reclamation of female power. Kind of reminds me of the name [name_f]Lilith[/name_f], with a similar dark-yet-powerful vibe.
[name_f]Astraea[/name_f] - I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] this name. I think it’s very underused. It sounds a bit like the Spanish word estrella, which is cool because they both are connected to the meaning of stars/constellations. 10/10 yes to this name!
[name_f]Sappho[/name_f] - Like I mentioned above, I love this as a middle name, but do not suggest it as a first.
[name_f]Minerva[/name_f] - I’ve always personally preferred [name_f]Athena[/name_f], but I really like the idea of switching it up and using the [name_m]Roman[/name_m] version! [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] McGonagal breathed new life into this name, and I think both the [name_f]Goddess[/name_f] and the character would be fabulous namesakes.
Galadriel - I love this as a middle name! Galadriel was an awesome character in LOTR, and would be a fabulous namesake. However, I don’t see it working as a first name. It feels too character-specific. Maybe if you had a more modern feeling nickname?
[name_f]Leontine[/name_f] - I prefer [name_f]Leona[/name_f] or [name_f]Leonie[/name_f], but this is a cool name. I don’t love it, but I like it.
Names I dislike, either because the pronunciations just feel too weird/forced/awkward to me, or because I don’t like the meanings/sound of it -->
[name_f]Yseult[/name_f]
[name_f]Halcyone[/name_f]
Hespera
[name_f]Azenor[/name_f]
Polyxena (wouldn’t this mean “many xena?” Like many strangers? Or multiple Xenas? Too weird for me)
[name_f]Ligeia[/name_f]
[name_f]Olwen[/name_f]
Faerydae
Ceinwen
Names I don’t feel strongly about either way – >
Euterpe (Cool mythology association, but feels a bit stiff)
[name_f]Medea[/name_f]
[name_f]Parthenia[/name_f]
[name_f]Apollonia[/name_f]
Rosmerta
[name_f]Endellion[/name_f] (I would really like this if I could get past the fact that it starts with the word “End”)
Good luck! [name_m]Feel[/name_m] free to message me if you want to discuss names in more depth, since I have a similar appreciation of these kinds of names :).
