I feel like I’ve read those origins too, but I’ve also read that [name]Elin[/name] and [name]Elinor[/name] are particularly Scandinavian spellings. It’s not mutually exclusive - two cultures could come up with the same take on old Greek [name]Eleni[/name] or whatever the original was.

[name]Elin[/name], for certain, is used up there - think about [name]Tiger[/name] Woods’ ex-wife, who is from [name]Sweden[/name]. That’s immediately who comes to mind when I see that spelling, fwiw.

There, [name]Elin[/name] would be prn more like AY-leen, but I do think most people here would guess [name]Ellen[/name]. I don’t thin the prn is too hard but the spelling is non-intuitive. With [name]Ellen[/name], that might be more of a pain because I think people know how to spell it that way. With [name]Eleanor[/name]/[name]Elinor[/name], she might have to spell it either way : D.

I prefer [name]Elinor[/name] a bit because [name]Ellen[/name] feels mildly dated to me. It’s not bad though. I also just think [name]Annabel[/name] and [name]Elinor[/name] feel like a very combo, more natural than [name]Annabel[/name] and [name]Elin[/name]. [name]Annabel[/name] and Elinora is OK too, but I like [name]Annabel[/name] and [name]Elinor[/name] best.

Finally, I think [name]Owen[/name] and [name]Elin[/name] are a little similar - [name]Elinor[/name] mixes it up more within the whole set.

Good luck!

I like Elinora best, probably because I prefer [name]Eleanor[/name] to [name]Elinor[/name], but Elinora to [name]Eleanora[/name]. I think she would have a variety of nicknames ([name]Elinor[/name], [name]Ellie[/name], [name]Elin[/name], [name]Nora[/name], even [name]Lin[/name], [name]Linnie[/name], [name]Nor[/name], etc.) and the name sounds very pretty. I think the sibset of [name]Annabel[/name], Elinora, [name]Owen[/name], and [name]Sullivan[/name] is very nice! They are similar in style but not too similar (I do agree [name]Owen[/name] and [name]Elin[/name] are too close for comfort).

I would go with [name]Elinor[/name]!

I love [name]Elinor[/name]! It’s my favorite spelling of the name. I don’t believe there’s anything particularly Scottish about it, though. Behindthename, which can usually be trusted, simply lists it as an English variant of [name]Eleanor[/name], same with [name]Eleanore[/name] and Eleonor. [name]Ellinor[/name] is common in Scandinavia, perhaps particularly [name]Sweden[/name], and Eilionoir is a Scottish version.

I like [name]Elinor[/name] best with your other kids’ names. Elinora feels a little stiff and starchy by comparison, and [name]Elin[/name] is too close to [name]Owen[/name].

My favorite is [name]El[/name]éonore! I also like [name]Eleanor[/name] and [name]Ali[/name]énor (in spite of the Alien thing) it’s the oldest form of the name that I know of. [name]Eleanor[/name] of [name]Aquitaine[/name] is the historical reference that I know, I thought the name came from Aenor (who was [name]Eleanor[/name]'s mother) but I could be wrong.

I like [name]Elinor[/name] best, but I prefer the spelling [name]Eleanor[/name].
