Elise/Elizabeth Baby Name Help

[name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I have had a hard time coming up with a second baby girl name for our daughter due in a couple of weeks. We think we may have finally narrowed it down to [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] (last name is one syllable and starts with an H). I really like this name and it pays homage to several of our family members; however, my only concern is that our first daughter’s name is [name_f]Claire[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] - and [name_f]Elise[/name_f] originates from the name [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think this matters given that one is a middle name and one is a first name? Are they too similar?

You can do that, since [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is a middle, but I’d personally avoid it. It’s technically giving your daughters the same name.

They are a little similar, especially because they have the same origin, but if [name_f]Elise[/name_f] is your favorite name, I wouldn’t avoid it because of this.

I don’t think it’s that big a deal. Middle names are rarely ever used, and it’s not the exact same name. If my sibling was named a variation of my middle name I wouldn’t really care.

If you’re still unsure, I’d suggest some names that sound like [name_f]Elise[/name_f] but don’t come from [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], like [name_f]Eloise[/name_f], [name_f]Estelle[/name_f], [name_u]Louise[/name_u] or [name_f]Louisa[/name_f].

It doesn’t matter in my opinion, but like @tallemaja wrote, if it bothers you, you can look for names similar to [name_f]Elise[/name_f].

Elise [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] is lovely by the way

I wouldn’t mind, since it is a middle name. [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] is beautiful and [name_f]Claire[/name_f] and [name_f]Elise[/name_f] sound lovely together. It also could be a sweet connection between them.

I think [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] would work! I know siblings with the same middle, so [name_f]Elise[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] don’t feel odd and they are quite distinct

I don’t think it really matters, especially if you really like the name [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] and the fact that it’s honoring family members. No one really goes by their middle name and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is a pretty common middle name anyway. If it really bothers you, you could use the names [name_f]Eloise[/name_f], [name_f]Eliana[/name_f], and [name_f]Elsie[/name_f].

I don’t think it matters at all since [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is a middle name, especially since you love it. [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] is a pretty name, and [name_f]Claire[/name_f] and [name_f]Elise[/name_f] go so well together.

For me it depends on how often you use [name_f]Claire[/name_f]’s middle name. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you often find yourself saying “[name_f]Claire[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]”? If so, [name_f]Elise[/name_f] might be too close. If she’s mainly just called [name_f]Claire[/name_f], I think it’s fine and might actually be a nice connection between the sisters. [name_f]Elise[/name_f] is a gorgeous name and I’ve always felt it’s underused.

I think it’s fine.

As others pointed out, most the time middle names are rarely used. I really love [name_f]Elise[/name_f] too. I think [name_f]Elise[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] are actually different enough. If it was [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] I would find it a tad weird. But somehow the z in [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and s in [name_f]Elise[/name_f] makes it distinct enough for me.

But I do think [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] is really close to [name_f]Elise[/name_f] but not related to [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] so that would be a good alternative if you really want to be in the clear.

I think [name_f]Elise[/name_f] and [name_f]Claire[/name_f] are beautiful together. I think it’s fine since [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is in the middle and though they’re related, the two names sound pretty different.
Would the spelling variation [name_f]Elyse[/name_f] work for you? Then they look even more different visually (but I do think [name_f]Elise[/name_f] is fine!).

I think there’s no problem with this. [name_f]Elise[/name_f] has been used as a name independent of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] for a very long time, and has quite distinct sounds. Sure, it may have originated with [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], but it’s a separate name now. And [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is a middle name. [name_f]Claire[/name_f] and [name_f]Elise[/name_f] work well as sisters. The subtle link of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Elise[/name_f] could even be something nice that they share.
