I’ve been thinking about this for awhile now. I really love both [name]Elise[/name] and [name]Eloise[/name]. I want your opinions on what I’ve been thinking. I feel like I could only choose one of the names because they would be way to close for sibling girls. This is all given that one day I might have two girls. Something to consider is that I’m not really a fan of nicknames. I’ve never had one nor has my Fiance so, I’m pretty sure they would only go by their full names till they were old enough to choose for themselves. It would be great to know why or why not you personally think they are too close for siblings.
Sorry, I think they are too close for siblings as well, because both the spelling and the pronunciation are so similar. They are both very nice, but [name]Eloise[/name] gets my vote!
I think they’re too close. It’s just one letter AND one sound, and it’s not a different sound, [name]Eloise[/name] has one more sound than [name]Elise[/name] so it’s basically like [name]Elise[/name] has “less name” than [name]Eloise[/name] has.
[name]Even[/name] if you insisted on full names, I can easily imagine their peers or themselves wanting to nn both [name]Ellie[/name]. I almost think it’s worse if you really avoided nn’s, as I could sort of argue for [name]Elise[/name] being [name]Ellie[/name] and [name]Eloise[/name] being [name]Lola[/name] to keep things clear. I still think even with that though this would just be too much. I think you’d get a fair amount of negative reactions from other people and that would be tiring, and I could imagine the girls themselves being kind of confused about the whole thing which seems non-ideal. I’m also imagining myself trying to call both names and saying one when I meant the other even more than I know will probably happen naturally. My kids will probably be, depending on sexes if I have two, [name]James[/name] and [name]David[/name], [name]James[/name] and [name]Lily[/name], or [name]Lily[/name] and [name]Grace[/name], and I think even with those very distinct names, I know I will sometimes say one’s name when I mean the other!
If you like any names in the same family I think it gets a little better. [name]Elise[/name] is related to [name]Elizabeth[/name], and I think [name]Eloise[/name] and [name]Isobel[/name] would be amazing. [name]Elise[/name] kind of sounds like [name]Alice[/name], and I think [name]Alice[/name] and [name]Eloise[/name], while close, are plausible. Same for [name]Eloise[/name] and [name]Alisa[/name]. [name]Elise[/name] rhymes with [name]Clarisse[/name], and while [name]Clarisse[/name] and [name]Eloise[/name] share an ending, it’s fine. [name]Eloise[/name] is related to [name]Louisa[/name] et al, and while I think [name]Elise[/name] an [name]Louise[/name] is probably pushing it (but better than [name]Eloise[/name]), [name]Elise[/name] and [name]Louisa[/name] is basically fine. [name]Elise[/name] and [name]Aloisa[/name] is another [name]Eloise[/name] family name option.
[name]Elise[/name] and [name]Heloise[/name] might be mildly better, but I know most people find [name]Heloise[/name] pretty clunky.
Anyway, that’s my 2c. If these are the two names you most love…I’d pick the one you love best and then go to your third option, or keep your eyes open for new loves.
Thank you both for your replies. I understand they are similar and I think that is why I like them both so much. I like [name]Elizabeth[/name] but, I think it’s too close to a family member named [name]Eliza[/name]. I can’t use [name]Alice[/name]… my name is [name]Alice[/name]. Plus my best friend is using [name]Alice[/name] for her baby. [name]Heloise[/name] sounds like I mushed my [name]Nanny[/name]'s name up together ([name]Helen[/name] [name]Louise[/name]). I currently don’t have a third name that we both love this much.
Thank you for your suggestions and time. It’s nice to be able to ask people who aren’t going to bug me about TTC soon.
Yeah, probably too close. But the more I say them, the less I think so. Also, they’re not the same name. As in, it’s not [name]Elise[/name] and [name]Elspeth[/name], which are both dimunitives of [name]Elisabeth[/name].
You could possibly use one for a middle name of one of your daughters. ie [name]Eloise[/name] [name]Juniper[/name] and [name]Alexandra[/name] [name]Elise[/name]
Besides, you might surprise yourself. Once you are pregnant you might have completely different taste, just gone off the name or you might think, yup, she’s not an [name]Elise[/name]/[name]Eloise[/name] at all when you meet her!
I like your suggestion of using one as a middle name. I also have heard of people changing the name because it didn’t fit after they met. We were like that with our kitty. We had her for a little bit before we named her since she was sky and timid at the shelter but when she came home she just was a curious little devil.
I think they are too close for siblings. But if you really love them you could use one as a mn. (Probably a second mn would be best - but you know, at least you’d get to use it. Without it being a daily issue).
