Thoughts on these names? I’m really loving [name]Anneliese[/name], but my husband prefers the simpler [name]Elise[/name]. I like them both, and can’t really decide which I prefer. [name]Just[/name] looking for some outside opinions!
I love both! I prefer the soft, sweet, more extravagant [name]Anneliese[/name] and I love that she could be [name]Anne[/name], [name]Annie[/name], [name]Elise[/name], or even just [name]Liese[/name]/[name]Lise[/name]. So sweet. [name]Elise[/name] is simpler and I do love it a lot, but it feels just dated enough, to me.
I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Anneliese[/name] - so soft and pretty:-) [name]Elise[/name] just sounds dated to me- sorry:(
I can’t decide, I love them both! To me, it really depends on which middle name you use. If it’s a shorter middle name, go with [name]Anneliese[/name]. If it’s a longer middle name, go with [name]Elise[/name].
[name]Anneliese[/name]!
I love both of these names.
I’d go with [name]Anneliese[/name] because you can still call her “[name]Elise[/name]” for short.
I prefer [name]Elise[/name] – it feels simpler and stronger to me, while still being very feminine.
I love both of these names! The only difference to me may be that [name]Elise[/name] has a generally standard spelling where [name]Anneliese[/name], Annelies, [name]Annalise[/name], etc. is all over the map.
I don’t think you can go wrong either way. I would use one of these two names in a heartbeat if my last name was anything but [name]Ellis[/name]. Unfortunately, that is not the case.
[name]Elise[/name] would be my pick!
I would say [name]Anneliese[/name], you can still call her [name]Elise[/name].
I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Anneliese[/name]! [name]Elise[/name] is fine but [name]Anneliese[/name] is stunning.
I love both! I would say it depends on your last name. If you had a long last name, then I would go with [name]Elise[/name], which I don’t find dated, by the way. If you have a shorter, uncomplicated last name, I would go with [name]Anneliese[/name].
[name]Anneliese[/name]!
It’s funny, because you’re probably going to tell your hubby that everyone else likes [name]Anneliese[/name] and he’s going to feel ganged up on! But I agree with pp’s. You can always call [name]Anneliese[/name] [name]Elise[/name]. It’s the best of both worlds! Tell Hubby that!
On a slightly related note: I have recently started to love [name]Annelie[/name] without the -se.
Thank you everyone for all the feedback! To answer a few questions - Our last name is two syllables, and pretty simple - sounds like [name]Maynard[/name]. The middle name that we would most likely use would be two syllables as well, so I feel like [name]Anneliese[/name] has better flow. Also a name we love for a sister is [name]Coralie[/name], and to me [name]Coralie[/name] and [name]Anneliese[/name] are so perfect together!
But I know [name]Anneliese[/name]/[name]Annelise[/name] will have lots of issues with misspelling, and [name]Elise[/name] is pretty straight forward, while still being a pretty, girly name. I prefer to spell it [name]Annelise[/name] because it looks simpler, and more logical, but is that butchering the name?
Thanks for all of the help!!
I prefer [name]Elise[/name]. [name]Anneliese[/name] just seems like the parents are trying to hard to sound aristocratic
My daughter is named [name]Anneliese[/name], so I obviously love that version! There has been a few issues with spelling, although by the time she was 3 she told people her name was spelled “A, then 2 N’s, then 3 E’s, but not all together.” I often tell teachers and others to remember the “i before e rule” and that helps a lot. (My daughter is now 6, and her only spelling complaint is that it should be spelled like [name]Anna[/name], since it sounds like [name]Anna[/name]. She also sometimes wishes it was [name]Annalisa[/name] because she likes the name [name]Lisa[/name].) We usually use her full name, but often shorten it to [name]Liese[/name] or Liesey.
She loves her name for the most part. She loves the variety of nicknames. She likes to name her dolls versions of the name, so we have an abundance of dolls named [name]Anna[/name], [name]Ana[/name], [name]Anya[/name], [name]Elise[/name], [name]Lisa[/name], Liesey, and variations of her middle name and other nicknames we have given her.
[name]Elise[/name] is also a very pretty name. I like it a lot, but, like the name [name]Anna[/name], I just preferred the long flow-y [name]Anneliese[/name]. My husband, who has a degree in [name]German[/name] and used to live in Germany, also liked the pretty [name]German[/name]-ness to the name.
I prefer [name]Elise[/name]
