Eliza or Elizabeth on the Birth Cert?

Hello Berries! We’re expecting a little girl and have decided on calling her Eliza, a name to honor an Elizabeth. Her middle name will be Magnolia. What should we write on the birth certificate: Elizabeth Magnolia or Eliza Magnolia? We already have a Simon Geoffrey and a Jonah William. Our last name is one syllable. I go back and forth on this. I love both for different reasons. Thank you for your help!

[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f].

I prefer [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f], it gives her more options on nns, if she doesn’t wants to be called [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]

[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] has been an established separate name from [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] for at least a couple of centuries. And you plan, I assume, only to call her [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]. I would put [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] on her BC.

I like Elizabeth Magnolia personally! But both are gorgeous!

Since she’ll be going by [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and it’s a substantial name, I’d go with that!

If you plan on using [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and hope others will as well then I think it works beautifully as a full name. I would only use [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] if you want to leave the door open to [name_f]Liz[/name_f], [name_f]Beth[/name_f], [name_f]Lizzie[/name_f], etc.

If you’re only going to say and use [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], I’d go [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] on the birth certificate. It still clearly honours an [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], and flows really nicely with [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f].

If you are going to call her [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] makes more sense to me. [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] is a pretty name!

I absolutely love [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] such a beautiful elegant name and I think because [name_m]Simon[/name_m] & [name_u]Jonah[/name_u] are strong names that feel formal I think [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] works better with her siblings.

However if you plan to only call her [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and that’s the name you love then go with [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]. [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] has been an established name for centuries therefore using just [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] wouldn’t be out the ordinary. [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] is a super sweet name!

Good luck with making your decision whichever name you choose will be lovely :two_hearts:

I would use [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] ! Such a stunning name ! I love how beautifully it flows and how many nicknames [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] has !

I think [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] Magnolia,Simon [name_m]Geoffrey[/name_m] and [name_u]Jonah[/name_u] [name_u]William[/name_u] are nameberry perfection !

If you’re planning on calling her always [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], I’d go with [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] (stunning name btw). [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] sounds great with [name_m]Simon[/name_m] and [name_u]Jonah[/name_u], too.

I like [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] best with your sibset! It’s a great name on its own, and it’s 5 letters like the boys :yellow_heart:

I think that both [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] work lovely as a full name, but if you want her to have more options to fall back on when she’s older, then [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is the way to go.

I’d go with [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]! If you choose [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] she may end up being called by one of its other nicknames when she’s older. Both names sound beautiful with [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f], I just prefer [name_f]Eliza[/name_f].

I agree with pp, if you strictly wish to call her [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], than you should name her [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] on her birth certificate.

[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]!

[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] gets my vote!

I think [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] flows a bit better but I love [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] as a stand-alone, and I think [name_m]Simon[/name_m], [name_u]Jonah[/name_u], and just [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] is perfect! I would go with [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] personally.

Pros for [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]:

  • You want to call her [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] has alternative nicknames if she likes that later (Ellie, Liz)
  • All the siblings would have 5 letters in their first names, cute!
  • [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] is really cute and not too long

Pros for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]:

  • [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is the definition of a classic name
  • [name_m]Even[/name_m] more nickname options than [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] is a very lovely name and sounds great, but it is kinda long

Personally I think I would go with [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]
