[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] is the clear winner for me. I think it is a sweet, easy-flowing name. It’s just such a harmonious sound: [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]. The soft vowels, the velvety ‘v’, the subtle ‘l’ and ‘n’… sigh just dreamy. I feel like I would write it over and over, I mean it even looks beautiful. Plus, it has feminine nicknames of [name_f]Eve[/name_f], [name_f]Evie[/name_f], [name_f]Eva[/name_f], etc.

[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] sounds like the name a [name_m]German[/name_m] nanny would yell to a kid. Much less flowy, much more harsh. Which might be what you prefer! There’s nothing wrong with either, but [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] would definitely be my personal choice of the two. The nicknames for [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] just aren’t as pretty imho. I’ve never liked [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] (reminds me of an ellie-phant), and if I don’t like [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], the nickname [name_f]Liza[/name_f] isn’t going to do it for me either.

I prefer [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], it’s just so sweet, classic, light, dainty, girly but not frilly. I do love [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] too and it is on my list ([name_f]Eliza[/name_f] is half of my sister’s mn so isn’t on mine, unfortunately) but [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] is a clear winner for me.

I love both, too, so I can see why you’re having a difficult time deciding!

For me the deciding factor would be the fact that I’m a nickname person. We named our daughter [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] because of the nickname possibilities. We call her [name_f]Libby[/name_f], but one of the potential nicknames she may prefer when she’s older is [name_f]Eliza[/name_f].

[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] as a full name, while lovely, doesn’t lend itself to nicknames so much. So I’d say only use this if you want to call her [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], no nickname. Which is exactly what some people want!

Because I love nicknames, if given this choice, [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] or [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] (not [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]), I’d probably choose [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]. And I adore the nickname [name_f]Evie[/name_f]!
