My boyfriend and I are totally at odds on girl names. His taste is very…random and interesting to put it nicely. He does like [name]Imogen[/name] a lot though, and while I like it, I’m not 110 percent sold. I think what’s holding me back is that the name is too…pretty and not spunky and fun enough. [name]Eliza[/name] has been my favorite girl name since I was a little girl and while he has vetoed it in the past, he agreed to consider it again. Other names that I adore that he has said absolutely NO [name]WAY[/name] to are [name]Hattie[/name], [name]Pippa[/name], and [name]Freya[/name].
If it were up to you, which would you pick, [name]Eliza[/name] or [name]Imogen[/name], and why?
P.S-Other names we [name]BOTH[/name] like are [name]Jude[/name], [name]Luca[/name], [name]Rhys[/name], [name]Dashiell[/name], and [name]Hugo[/name] to give you ideas about sibsets.
Although both names are lovely, I do prefer [name]Eliza[/name] to [name]Imogen[/name]. It has a more spunky and fun vibe that is very appealing. It can sound elegant or feisty depending on the middle name. I do think [name]Eliza[/name] works better with [name]Dashiell[/name], [name]Jude[/name], [name]Luca[/name] and [name]Hugo[/name] while [name]Imogen[/name] is best with [name]Rhys[/name].
I would prefer [name]Eliza[/name] as well. I like both, but [name]Eliza[/name] just seems so cheerful and I can see it on an adult as well. I also think it goes well with your boys picks!!
I prefer [name]Imogen[/name], and I have always found [name]Imogen[/name] to be fresh and spunky. I met my first [name]Imogen[/name] a few months ago – she was about 3 years old and had a very magnetic personality…she was bright, beautiful, and full of character. I thought the name fit her perfectly, because that is how I see [name]Imogen[/name].
I completely agree with norskelove here, that’s exactly the same way I view [name]Imogen[/name]. I have always seen [name]Eliza[/name] as rather bland honestly, and [name]Imogen[/name] is just much prettier in my opinion.
I like [name]Eliza[/name] better, it’s classic and understated ,but, spunky and fun. [name]Imogen[/name] seems so heavy to me for a girl’s name. [name]Eliza[/name], to me, seems like the hands down winner.
I love [name]Imogen[/name] <3 it is one of my favorite names. I’ve never much like Eliza much because it always had a nasaly sound to me, but that might just be me.
I really like both names, but of the two I like [name]Imogen[/name] and little bit more. I used to dislike this name very much, but that was with the old frumpy american pronunciation. It has really grown on me with the proper English pronunciation. I do see where you are coming from with it feeling very “pretty” but for me [name]Imogen[/name] definitely still has that spunk.
[name]Eliza[/name] sounds fun and spunky when you say it, but I feel like it’s not as fresh as [name]Imogen[/name] (I guess because it’s more classic).
I think my husband would say the exact opposite of my opinion though, as [name]Eliza[/name] is on his favorite list.
As a sibset, [name]Eliza[/name] seems to fit more with your boy choices than [name]Imogen[/name] does, but [name]Imogen[/name] would by no means feel out of place amongst them.
The personal attachment is really hard to overcome though, and taking into consideration that it has been one of your favorites since you were a little girl (I have a few of these type names myself) I would say go with [name]Eliza[/name] (if you can talk your boyfriend into it). The story behind it, being able to tell your little girl that it has always been one of your favorite names is really really sweet.
I much prefer [name]Imogen[/name], which I think is cute and spunky. [name]Eliza[/name] on the other hand is a very conservative private school type of a name here in Australia, not spunky and fun at all, its a bit posh and serious.
The spunkiest, most fun person I’ve ever come across is Idgie Threadgoode in [name]Fried[/name] [name]Green[/name] Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe, and she’s an [name]Imogen/name. Sold me on the name for life.
[name]Both[/name] are wonderful names, but I prefer [name]Eliza[/name]. It’s classic yet fresh and fun, familiar to everyone but no overdone, and (I would think) pretty much immune to spelling and pronunciation errors. You can’t go wrong with [name]Eliza[/name], but [name]Imogen[/name] is pretty too.
I like both! If we didn’t have a super harsh sounding European last name, I’d totally use [name]Imogen[/name] or [name]Imogene[/name]. I like the nn options for [name]Eliza[/name] ([name]Liza[/name], [name]Libby[/name]) better than those for [name]Imogen[/name].
