Which name do you think is prettier and why? ![]()
I absolutely love both, and they’re very close on my favourites list, so it’s really hard to choose. But, purely because [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] is way more popular where I live (so much so that its on my GP list) I’d have to go with [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]. You really cannot go wrong either way though.
I love both names, but [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] is one of my all time favorites. As far as popularity, my great grandmother is the only person I’ve ever met with the name.
I love both, but [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] to me has an English quality. [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] strikes me as more romantic, and therefore slightly prettier.
I know i’m in the extreme minority on nameberry but i’ve never seen the appeal of [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]. not quite sure why. [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] is so pretty though and has more nn options ([name_f]Elle[/name_f], [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], [name_f]Liza[/name_f], [name_f]Liz[/name_f], etc) so i vote [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]
I also don’t see the appeal with [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]. It sounds shrill.
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] is my pick. I like that it’s vintage and quirky and also that it has plenty of nn potential (a must have for me). [name_m]Eli[/name_m], [name_f]Liza[/name_f], Lie, [name_f]Ella[/name_f], and so on.
I think [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]'s prettier. I dislike the long “i” sound in general, so I’m not a huge fan of [name_f]Eliza[/name_f].
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f] hands down! I am in the small minority of people that absolutely despises the name [name_f]Eliza[/name_f].
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f] is lovely, and not as super common either.
I love hearing people’s opinions on different names! Keep them coming!
Sound wise I love both of these names, but I’d go for [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] over [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] purely from a literary/film perspective. [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] for me is the youngest [name_m]Bennet[/name_m] sister from Pride and Prejudice whereas [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] reminds me of the film My Fair Lady and is [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_m]Bennet[/name_m]'s nickname.
I personally absolutely adore [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] because it has a wonderful family link, and literary references. [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] to me sounds really romantic and feminine. Also, there are lots of different nicknames like [name_f]Liz[/name_f], [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], [name_f]Elle[/name_f] etc that are gorgeous. [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] just sounds a bit limp in my opinion.

I never took to [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] and I think well of [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]. For those reasons, I prefer [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] over [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]. Nonetheless, I think of [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] as more of a nickname for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] rather than an independent name of its own.
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f] sounds strong to me; [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] is softer. I see [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] as the dominant child in a family and [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] as her follower. Or [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] is the director and [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] the actress. [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] as the doctor and [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] as the nurse. Or [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] as the photographer and [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] as the writer.
I like both names but would never use both for sisters since they do,have such strong typecast imagery for me.
I prefer [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] is a bit more harsh [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. [name_f]Elysia[/name_f] is kind of the perfect cross between the two!
Neither are favorites for me, but I think I prefer [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] out of those two. [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] makes me hear “despise-a.” I agree with a pp that for me [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] is the youngest (dumb) [name_m]Bennett[/name_m] sister. Sorry
I love [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] and [name_f]Lydie[/name_f]. [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] [name_m]Bennet[/name_m] is an idiot in Pride and Prejudice, but I won’t hold that against this lovely name. [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] is perfectly sweet as well. It is great as a name in honor of an [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], and you can use [name_f]Lizzie[/name_f] as a nickname. As I mention P and P before, [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_m]Bennet[/name_m] is one of noblest ladies of literature.
For me [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] is too harsh. I’d prefer [name_f]Elise[/name_f]…soft, romantic, sophisticated. [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] does make me think of a spirited tomboy though and that’s a good thought.
I’d vote [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]. I like that people are noticing this name again. [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] would be magnificent!
I prefer [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]. It sounds brighter and zestier than [name_f]Lydia[/name_f].
So interesting to see how some people have such strong opinions/imagery attached to names. Some days I find [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] to sound quite harsh but other days I find it lively and sophisticated. [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] I love too but I know lots of people find it heavy whereas I think of it as quite light and lyrical…

I love [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and used to love [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] but my OH, pointed out that it rhymes with a nasty venereal disease!
