I think it’s pretty, really feminine of course but she can shorten it to [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_f]Liz[/name_f] or [name_f]Bella[/name_f] (which seems to be your favorite :)) if she thinks it’s too princess-y when she’s older…
As for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], if you nickname her [name_f]Bella[/name_f] from day one, no problem ([name_f]Beth[/name_f] --> “[name_f]Bessa[/name_f]” --> [name_f]Bella[/name_f], not “too different” for me)
So long as it is [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] + bella (eh-LYE-zah-bell-uh) I think it should be fine, but not if you’re saying it like [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. And yes, [name_f]Bella[/name_f] is too much of a stretch from just [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].
[name_f]Elizabella[/name_f] is very pretty name. It is stretch to nn [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Bella[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizabella[/name_f] might be hard to wear. What about [name_f]Elisabetta[/name_f]? She could be [name_f]Bella[/name_f], plus, [name_f]Elizabetta[/name_f] is name used in [name_f]Italy[/name_f] and wearable.
@sorceress, yes do understand what you mean about it being hard to wear. [name_f]Elizabetta[/name_f] I don’t love straight away but it may grow on
[name_m]Just[/name_m] trying to think again about [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is helping me see the name in a new light. So DH may yet be able to persuade me if we ever have a little girl!
I quite like nn [name_f]Ella[/name_f] for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] ([name_f]Ella[/name_f] was my grandmothers first name) and I do like the fact that it’s wearable at all stages of life.
It’s mainly the nn [name_f]Lizzie[/name_f]/[name_f]Lizzy[/name_f] that puts me off. Not even pride and prejudice can convince me that I like it!
Q. Any suggestions for middles for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]/ [name_f]Elizabella[/name_f] beginning with ‘A’
I agree with the suggestion of [name_f]Elisabetta[/name_f] (I prefer the more common Italian spelling) or just nicknaming [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] “[name_f]Bella[/name_f]”. Nicknames don’t always have to be derivatives of the given name.
Personally I think [name_f]Elizabella[/name_f] is a little too frilly and over the top.
I do not see an issue with naming a daughter [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and calling her [name_f]Bella[/name_f]. Nicknames do not even need to be tied to their name. [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Isabel[/name_f]/[name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] if you have concerns?
@lovemysweeties- I love [name_f]Isobel[/name_f]. One of my favourite names. DH just really loves [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]! Obviously we wouldn’t use both together as they’re basically the same name.
Personally, I really like [name_f]Elizabella[/name_f]. I do agree that it’s frilly though and would never work on a tomboy. Question though. You said you like [name_f]Ella[/name_f]. So why can’t you just name her [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and call her [name_f]Ella[/name_f]? I do think that [name_f]Bella[/name_f] would work, since it’s just a B being added to [name_f]Ella[/name_f] (which is a perfectly acceptable nickname for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]), but if you’re worried about it, then just call her [name_f]Ella[/name_f]. You can avoid [name_f]Lizzie[/name_f]/[name_f]Lizzy[/name_f] pretty easily if you do that.
I love this name! It is so unique and upfront! One of its flaws though, is that when i first saw it, i read [name_f]Izabella[/name_f] in my head. It is very uncommon and probably will tend to get mispronounced, but hey what are nicknames for? [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]'s nn being [name_f]Bella[/name_f]? Of course! i have heard many nn that have not even been remotely close to their name! For example: [name_f]Olympia[/name_f]'s nn was Bia and there isn’t even a b in her name!
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helped!
I think [name_f]Elizabella[/name_f] is beautiful! Such a great variety of nn’s as she grows and can choose for her own personality. It has a great feminine feel that can be easily turned into a tomboyish nn. [name_f]IMO[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is totally a stretch to [name_f]Bella[/name_f]. No matter how soon you call her [name_f]Bella[/name_f], people will wonder…Why didn’t she just name her [name_f]Bella[/name_f]? With [name_f]Elizabella[/name_f] you have the option and so will she as she gets older.
I’m not a big fan. [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] already has a variation which includes [name_f]Bella[/name_f] ([name_f]Isabella[/name_f]) and I just don’t see the necessity of making up a new name.
Not a fan - since [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] are derivatives of the same name it doesn’t make sense to me to smush them together - that would be like combining [name_f]Ann[/name_f] and [name_f]Anna[/name_f] or [name_f]Mary[/name_f] and [name_f]Marie[/name_f], to me. It also sounds like an extra syllable added to the front of [name_f]Isabella[/name_f], if that makes sense. But it’s not BAD, and I bet plenty of people will find it pretty. I second [name_f]Elisabetta[/name_f] as a more traditional option.
I wonder if knowing the connection to [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] would make your SO like [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] more.
I agree that [name_f]Ella[/name_f] and even [name_f]Bella[/name_f] are possible NNs for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] how many NN options there are in [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], and like you, [name_f]Liz[/name_f] and [name_f]Lizzie[/name_f] are my least favorite. The [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] spelling can help get rid of that possibility.
I’m not a fan. I don’t see a problem using [name_f]Bella[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] though since [name_f]Isabel[/name_f]/[name_f]Isabella[/name_f] is a form of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].
I don’t like it at all, sorry. It’s all smoosh smoosh smoosh! [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]-[name_f]Belle[/name_f] or fn [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] with mn [name_f]Belle[/name_f]
[name_f]Elizabel[/name_f] is one of my biggest GPs, but it’s just that–a GP. I have trouble picturing it on an actual child, despite the nice variety of nickname options. I like [name_f]Elizabella[/name_f], but it still feels like too much to me. [name_f]Isobel[/name_f]/[name_f]Isabel[/name_f] and [name_f]Sybella[/name_f] are my favorite ways to get to [name_f]Bella[/name_f].
And I agree with pps that [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] nn [name_f]Bella[/name_f] is too much of a stretch, while [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] nn [name_f]Ella[/name_f] works.
To be honest, when i first saw it, i didnt even realize it wasnt [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. I think you have to really think about saying elizabella. It doesnt roll off your tongue. Its not a bad name though. I dont mind it.
I’m surprised at all the people saying that it’s a stretch to get from [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] to [name_f]Bella[/name_f], considering [name_f]Ella[/name_f] is perfectly acceptable nickname for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Bella[/name_f] is just adding a B. I mean, [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] has nicknames ranging from [name_f]Betty[/name_f] to [name_f]Libby[/name_f] to Liddy to [name_f]Betsy[/name_f] to [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and those are widely accepted. I don’t see why [name_f]Bella[/name_f] would be any different.
