I am not pregnant but we are actively TTC with medical assistance to boot! So we are talking about names on occasion.
He likes very classic, feminine girls names: [name]Isabella[/name], [name]Catherine[/name], [name]Miranda[/name], [name]Victoria[/name].
My naming style is a bit more adventurous, as some of you know. I like some classics, like [name]Diana[/name] and [name]Mary[/name], but I also like names like [name]Vesper[/name] and [name]Emerald[/name] and [name]Chrysanthemum[/name] and [name]Seraphine[/name] and [name]Hero[/name].
[name]One[/name] name we both like is [name]Elizabeth[/name]. Our boys name is settled - [name]Josiah[/name], nn [name]Joe[/name]. I think [name]Elizabeth[/name] nn [name]Betty[/name] goes well: longer, more ornate and versatile Biblical first, with short, perky retro nickname.
I need your help…
(A) Loving [name]Elizabeth[/name]. Because I don’t. Not yet.
(B) Loving [name]Betty[/name]. I like [name]Betty[/name] but I am so taken with unusual, quirky nicknames like [name]Fia[/name] and Heli (out of the question to DH) that I’m having trouble completely embracing the untroubled all-American [name]Betty[/name]. I’m also slightly worried that it will end up trendy (I’ve never seen Mad Men but apparently everyone else alive has) or that [name]Betty[/name]'s World War II pinup, apple-pie American kitsch image is too limiting. Thoughts?
(C) Middles. I like alliteration. I like vowels. DH likes French names. We both like Scots-Irish. It can be a bit more adventurous than the first. Last name is [name]Hat[/name].ten. Big brother (my stepson) is [name]Sean[/name] [name]Killian[/name].
Thanks, everybody! Any other thoughts or insights are welcome.
I love [name]Elizabeth[/name]! It will never go out of style. I adore [name]Betty[/name]. I also love [name]Betsy[/name]. I think you should use a more adventurous middle, maybe a guilty pleasure name of yours, to balance out your feeling that [name]Elizabeth[/name] may too ordinary. Good luck!
[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Snow[/name] or [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Seraphine[/name] from your list would be really pretty options. I also think [name]Betsy[/name] is cuter and more spunky than just [name]Betty[/name]. I knew an [name]Elizabeth[/name] in college who went by [name]Betsy[/name].
I think [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Snow[/name] is beautiful, especially for a winter baby! I know an [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Hope[/name]. [name]Hope[/name] is really nms, but I think it goes nicely with [name]Elizabeth[/name]. I also love [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Mary[/name] or [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Emerald[/name].
I also think it might be awesome to have an [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Louisa[/name]. Then I could call her [name]Betty[/name] [name]Lou[/name] and mean it.
[name]Elizabeth[/name] is lovely! It’s such a dazzling, robust name. It looks and sounds like jewelery.
First combination that came to mind was [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Eve[/name], as gabriela suggested. I also really like [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Isolde[/name], [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Clementine[/name] & [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Vesper[/name]. I think it’s only fair with such a classic (yet timelessly gorgeous) first name that your DH allows you to slip in a middle that’s more your style.
[name]Betty[/name] isn’t my favourite pet form of [name]Elizabeth[/name], but it’s adorable as hell nonetheless. I really love [name]Zibby[/name] for some reason, as well as [name]Elsa[/name], [name]Liz[/name], [name]Bessie[/name], [name]Libby[/name], [name]Birdie[/name], [name]Billie[/name] & [name]Lily[/name].
[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Ever[/name]
[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Everly[/name]
[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Ember[/name]
[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Emery[/name] ([name]Betty[/name] [name]Emery[/name]) - this is my fave
You could decorate her room with [name]Betty[/name] Boop stuff
However onto the main topic, [name]Elizabeth[/name] is stunning! A lush intricate name, that is fabolously elegant and classy. [name]Elizabeth[/name] is rich in history and has so may literacy associations namingly Pride & Prejudice. [name]Elizabeth[/name] works well for any child and is beautifully understated. But I’m not keen on [name]Betty[/name] I think she could end up with trendy amongst hipsters. Furthermore I don’t find her attractive. I prefer [name]Eliza[/name]. [name]Eliza[/name] despite becoming popular (more popular as a stand alone name rather than a nickname) feels a range of different things she’s cute and timely yet has a wild and reckless edge which is perfect as she moulds into different personalities. Other nicknames I love are; [name]Eli[/name], [name]Beth[/name], [name]Lizzie[/name].
Combinations:
[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Eleanora[/name] Hatten
[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Elle[/name] Hatten
[name]Elizabeth[/name] Edme Hatten
[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Eglantine[/name] Hatten
[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Eleni[/name] Hatten
[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Elise[/name] Hatten
[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Emmanuelle[/name] Hatten
[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Etienette[/name] Hatten
[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Evelia[/name] Hatten
I think [name]Elizabeth[/name] is lovely, but it feels very very regal to me. [name]Betty[/name] is a cute nickname, I also like [name]Libby[/name], [name]Lizzie[/name], [name]Bess[/name] and my favourite, [name]Beth[/name].
[name]Elizabeth[/name] with the nn [name]Betty[/name] is adorable! I say go for it totally. Also, love your boy name of [name]Josiah[/name]. I like your suggestion of using [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Louisa[/name] and a nn of [name]Betty[/name] [name]Lou[/name], that would be my choice! Good luck!
I plan on naming my daughter [name]Elizabeth[/name] too, but I think I’d go with [name]Eliza[/name] as the nickname. I do think [name]Betty[/name] is adorable and charming though!
For the middle name, I would go with [name]Clare[/name] for family reasons, but I also like:
