Are [name]Ella[/name] and [name]Emma[/name] too close for sisters? Our 3 year old, [name]Ella[/name], started calling baby girl “[name]Emma[/name]” about 3 months ago and insists that it’s her name. This is the same little girl that told me I was pregnant before I knew and also said she knew it was a baby girl.
DH loves it. It’s growing on me (despite popularity) but I don’t love it. I don’t love anything yet and I’ve been looking for months!
If we used “[name]Emma[/name],” our last name is [name]Thompson[/name]…would it bother you that there is an actress named [name]Emma[/name] [name]Thompson[/name]? I don’t think she’s extremely popular in the US, but the association still bothers me.
If you liked [name]Emma[/name], what middle name would you use?
I’m due in 10 weeks and I’m about to drive myself crazy! Any other suggestions are welcome!!
My suggestion to you is that you use a name like [name]Emmeline[/name] or [name]Emilia[/name] as your daughter’s first name, which will still allow her to be called
“[name]Emma[/name],” if you so choose.
If it were me, I’d be less concerned about [name]Ella[/name] and [name]Emma[/name] being too close than about a well-known actress sharing the same name. That would bother me too. [name]How[/name] about [name]Emily[/name], and then your daughter can call her [name]Emmie[/name]? Or maybe [name]Amelia[/name]? Or [name]Emmeline[/name]?
I really like the suggestion of using [name]Emmaline[/name] or [name]Emilia[/name]…some kind of longer form…instead of just [name]Emma[/name]. [name]Emma[/name] and [name]Ella[/name] seem just a bit matchy-matchy.
Thank you, both! I just told DH tonight that I want both girls to have their own identity. I’ve just been stressing about this for so long…I think I’ve looked at every name there is and nothing is clicking! Any other suggestions? I like all different types of names, but typically go for trendy, girly names (for example, [name]Sophia[/name]/[name]Lola[/name]…Dh hates both) and would love a longer name with a nn like [name]Ella[/name]'s. “Classic Romantic” names are not my style, if that helps!
I agree with the others–[name]Ella[/name] and [name]Emma[/name] are way too close for me, and I wouldn’t want my daughter to have the same name as a celebrity! I do really like the idea of [name]Emma[/name] as a MN, though–you would have the connection to the name that [name]Ella[/name] obviously loves, and you could still use a FN you love, and there wouldn’t be the connection to the actress.
My first thought was [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Emma[/name] [name]Thompson[/name], but I really like [name]Genevieve[/name] [name]Emma[/name] [name]Thompson[/name], as well… Or [name]Lillian[/name] [name]Emma[/name] [name]Thompson[/name].
Does the idea of that appeal to you? A few other ideas with [name]Ella[/name]:
[name]Ella[/name] and [name]Sophie[/name]
[name]Ella[/name] and [name]Tess[/name]
[name]Ella[/name] and [name]Lena[/name]
[name]Ella[/name] and [name]Julia[/name]
[name]Ella[/name] and [name]Clara[/name]
[name]Ella[/name] and [name]Olive[/name]/[name]Olivia[/name]
[name]Ella[/name] and [name]Daisy[/name]
[name]Ella[/name] and [name]Scarlett[/name]
[name]Ella[/name] and [name]Serena[/name]/[name]Seren[/name]
[name]Ella[/name] and [name]Wren[/name]
[name]Ella[/name] and [name]Eve[/name]
[name]Ella[/name] and [name]Poppy[/name]
[name]Ella[/name] and [name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Ella[/name] and [name]Posey[/name]
[name]Ella[/name] and [name]Ariana[/name]
[name]Ella[/name] and [name]Caroline[/name]
I love [name]Emi[/name] and would probably use that, but DH has cousin that named her daughter [name]Emily[/name] nn [name]Emi[/name]. We’ve talked about [name]Emmaline[/name], since [name]Ella[/name]'s first name is actually [name]Gabriella[/name].
I really like [name]Charlotte[/name], although DH vetoed that one! We can’t use [name]Lillian[/name], but I really like [name]Olivia[/name], [name]Scarlett[/name] and [name]Sophie[/name]! I also really like using [name]Emma[/name] as a middle name! Thank you!
I actually like [name]Amelia[/name] alot but have a really bad association with “lia” although I pronounce it a-meal-yuh. I don’t know that I could get past that! What nicknames would you suggest?
What about [name]Gemma[/name]? It’s got the [name]Emma[/name] sound, but it’s different enough from [name]Ella[/name].
[name]Ella[/name] can still call her [name]Emma[/name], or [name]Gem[/name] even. You can say that she’s her special jewel or something cute like that.
