Still looking for a girl name. We have a [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and a [name_m]Colt[/name_m] already. Other names on our short list are [name_f]Cora[/name_f], [name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], and [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f].
Currently revisiting [name_f]Ella[/name_f] (it was in the top 10 with DD). Too popular? It’s not even in the top 100 in my state. [name_m]Just[/name_m] wondering if it feels vintage enough next to [name_f]Violet[/name_f]?
Everyone talks about [name_f]Ella[/name_f]'s popularity, but I’ve only ever met 3. One was a sweet elderly lady. I know oodles of [name_f]Emma[/name_f]'s. I do love [name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_f]Ella[/name_f], and [name_f]Cora[/name_f] with your other kids names.
I love [name_f]Ella[/name_f]! I hear people talking about [name_f]Ella[/name_f]'s popularity, too, but I’ve only ever met one. She’s seven, and adorable! She has a twin sister named [name_f]Ava[/name_f], who consequently is the only [name_f]Ava[/name_f] I know, too. And [name_f]Ella[/name_f] ranks number 12 in my state. I think [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_m]Colt[/name_m], and [name_f]Ella[/name_f] are perfect, together, honestly, though, and would love to meet a little [name_f]Ella[/name_f]! If [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] wasn’t on my top 10, [name_f]Ella[/name_f] would probably be there for me, too. I adore her. I really like [name_f]Cora[/name_f], [name_f]Clara[/name_f], and [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], too, but would prefer to see [name_f]Ella[/name_f] or [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] since you already have a [name_m]Colt[/name_m]. [name_m]Colt[/name_m] and [name_f]Clara[/name_f] is fine, but [name_m]Colt[/name_m] and [name_f]Cora[/name_f] seem really similar to me.
I personally do not know anyone named [name_f]Ella[/name_f], and I think it’s beautiful! I do know a few girls named [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] though. If you love [name_f]Ella[/name_f] and the only thing holding you up is the popularity, you could always use a longer name like [name_u]Ellery[/name_u] or [name_u]Ellington[/name_u] or something similar with the nickname [name_f]Ella[/name_f].
I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Ella[/name_f]! It’s one of those sassy and sweet names you just can’t go wrong with if you ask me! [name_u]Love[/name_u] your other kiddo’s names too, [name_f]Ella[/name_f] fits in perfectly!
Not too popular! [name_f]Ella[/name_f] is lovely. It’s new and old at the same time. Very nice with [name_f]Violet[/name_f]. You should have no hesitations!
It’s pretty and vintage and in my state way overdone. I like [name_f]Elle[/name_f] which isn’t very used and matches your sibset. [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] is in my top 5 though too.
According to the SSA, [name_f]Ella[/name_f] was ranked at #15 in 2013.
W/[name_f]Violet[/name_f] & [name_m]Colt[/name_m], I like [name_f]Clara[/name_f] & [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] better than [name_f]Ella[/name_f] & [name_f]Cora[/name_f]. [name_m]Just[/name_m] my opinion, though.
[name_f]Ella[/name_f] is very lovely and goes perfectly with [name_f]Violet[/name_f]. It’s trendy, yes, but more trendy as a nickname rather than a full given name. My first choice with [name_f]Violet[/name_f] would be [name_f]Clara[/name_f], but apparently it’s fast rising in popularity, too. [name_f]Cora[/name_f] is a lovely name but [name_f]Cora[/name_f] and [name_f]Violet[/name_f] are two lead characters on Downtown [name_u]Abbey[/name_u]. I’m personally cheering for [name_f]Ella[/name_f] to go with [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_m]Colt[/name_m].
I think the fact that you are asking gives you a clue, although it definately depends on your area and how you view popularity. In the UK its quite commonly heard in the playground, as a given or nickname so its probably viewed as more common when you take both those factors into account. But as you already have children you should have a good finger on the pulse of how many children answer to [name_f]Ella[/name_f] in your area/playground.
I’d say with [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_m]Colt[/name_m] it was a little mainstream/middle of the road to be something I would have suggested to you for a third child but if you love it go for it!
[name_f]Cora[/name_f] - sorry nms, it feels imcomplete and too near [name_m]Colt[/name_m]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f] - again quite close to [name_m]Colt[/name_m] and feels a bit frilly next to [name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] - way too frilly with [name_f]Violet[/name_f]
Possible alternatives/suggestions;
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] - [name_f]Nora[/name_f] or [name_f]Ella[/name_f] as a NN
[name_f]Clover[/name_f] - combine the C or [name_m]Colt[/name_m] and the V in [name_f]Violet[/name_f], plus nature theme for all three! [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the idea of this
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] - unusual way to get to the NN [name_f]Ella[/name_f] or lise. Same vintage gutsiness as your first 2.
[name_f]Constance[/name_f] - you seem to like the C sound but this seems more seperate to [name_m]Colt[/name_m] IMHO - NN options; [name_u]Connie[/name_u], [name_f]Tansy[/name_f], [name_f]Cece[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]- you seem to like the C sound but this seems more seperate to [name_m]Colt[/name_m] IMHO
[name_f]Tansy[/name_f] - continuation of the ‘includes a T and nature name’ themes. [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the idea of this one too!
Are any of these giving good vibes or are you getting more confident with your original options? Let us know what you think
good luck!
I actually don’t know any [name_f]Ella[/name_f]'s here, but we moved across the country two years ago and I know lots of [name_f]Ella[/name_f]‘s in our old state. I’m not completely sold on any name–that’s the hard part. We really adore [name_f]Evvie[/name_f] (soft E) and were leaning towards [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] with nn [name_f]Evvie[/name_f] but it doesn’t feel right. From your suggestions, I love [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] but don’t like the ending next to [name_f]Violet[/name_f]. Also love [name_f]Clover[/name_f], but DH won’t go for it. I do get veto this time since he made the final decision on the other kids’ names Any more suggestions? We thought of [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] last night with nn [name_f]Evvie[/name_f], but I feel maybe [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] is too frilly next to [name_f]Violet[/name_f]?
I love [name_f]Ella[/name_f]! I personally know 0, but my sister has a friend whose little sister is called [name_f]Ella[/name_f]. It really isn’t overdone and it was #19 in 2012 where I live, which is [name_f]England[/name_f] and names like [name_f]Ella[/name_f] are all in the top 20. It also fits in perfectly with [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_m]Colt[/name_m]!
I know of 3 [name_f]Ella[/name_f]'s. I think it’s a cute name. Short, sweet, easy to spell and pronounce. I don’t think it’s at an overused status but it is a common name.
It’s popular but I wouldn’t say it was overdone. I think [name_f]Ella[/name_f] is really sweet. I’m an [name_f]Elle[/name_f] (short for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]) but I prefer [name_f]Ella[/name_f].
Personally, I love the name [name_f]Ella[/name_f]. However, it should be noted that the name is probably going to be the [name_f]Amanda[/name_f] or [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] of the new generation. Meaning that, many people will have the name. As long as you are okay with your child being known as [name_f]Ella[/name_f] C. or [name_f]Ella[/name_f] M., it’d be a great choice!
The rest of your name choices are lovely as well. You truly can’t go wrong.
My cousins name is [name_f]Ella[/name_f] and she’s a fifth grader, she’s a tomboy, etc. Her middle name is [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] after my grandma who passed the year she was born.
I love [name_f]Ella[/name_f] and [name_f]Violet[/name_f] together!
I know quite a few babies and small girls named [name_f]Ella[/name_f]. It is very popular here. I think that if you combined all of the names for which [name_f]Ella[/name_f] can be a nickname, it would rank a lot higher than 15. Many of the Ellas we know are named just [name_f]Ella[/name_f], but for many others, it is a nickname for [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] or [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] or even [name_u]Ellison[/name_u]. That is not to say that there is anything wrong with having or bestowing a popular name, just that as rosetyler says above, it is the [name_f]Amanda[/name_f] or [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] of its generation.
