Elle’s sister is due soon

Naming baby girl #1 [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] nn [name_f]Elle[/name_f]) was easy-ish. We needed an “I” name to honor my late MIL and I always loved the name [name_f]Elle[/name_f] to honor my late grandmother, so [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] nn [name_f]Elle[/name_f] was almost a no brainier - plus it honored my other grandmother’s [name_u]French[/name_u] heritage with that spelling. [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] for her middle name was also pretty easy to agree on and my husband and I love that it means happy. Who doesn’t want happiness for their kid?!

Baby girl #2 is due in the next few weeks and her name is proving much more difficult! We want something that sounds good with [name_f]Elle[/name_f] that isn’t super popular (we’re in NYC) but also not super obscure either. A few ideas we’ve thrown around are:

Mae
[name_f]Bridgette[/name_f] nn [name_f]Bree[/name_f]
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_f]Madeline[/name_f] (with potential nn [name_f]Mae[/name_f])
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] nn [name_f]Emmy[/name_f] (pronounced [name_f]Em[/name_f]-uh-lean)
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] (becoming too popular though?!)
[name_f]Savannah[/name_f] (not sure if it works with [name_f]Elle[/name_f])
[name_u]Everly[/name_u] nn [name_f]Evie[/name_f] (becoming too popular though?)

Middle name possibilities are any of the above plus [name_u]Barrie[/name_u] (family name), and [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] (family name).

Thoughts or any additional names that come to mind? TIA!

I love [name_f]Bridgette[/name_f] [name_f]Adeline[/name_f]. I think it goes well with [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f].

I love the name [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] [name_f]Blythe[/name_f]! Personally I suggest the name [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_u]Barrie[/name_u]! I think it would go well and they would share matching mn initials! I also think [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] would work well (it’s becoming popular but not so much that she’ll be the second one in class), random suggestions are the name [name_f]Marlene[/name_f] [name_u]Everly[/name_u]! and [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] “[name_f]Evie[/name_f]” would also work

Great list! I think all of them could work, to be honest.

My favorites with [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] “[name_f]Elle[/name_f]” are [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] “[name_f]Mae[/name_f]” and [name_f]Bridgette[/name_f] “[name_f]Bree[/name_f].” I like [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] and [name_u]Everly[/name_u] too. If you’re worried about popularity, I think [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] “[name_f]Emmy[/name_f]” might also be a concern—I know lots of Emmys! Maybe not as popular where you are.

Felicity is a great suggestion! I would add:
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] ([name_f]Audrey[/name_f] and [name_f]Elle[/name_f] sound like sisters to me)
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] nn. [name_f]Evie[/name_f], [name_f]Gigi[/name_f]…
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] nn. [name_f]Gwen[/name_f]
[name_u]Hadley[/name_u]
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] nn. [name_f]Rose[/name_f]?

My favourite from your list is [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] nn [name_f]Mae[/name_f], followed by [name_f]Bridgette[/name_f] nn [name_f]Bree[/name_f]. I also like [name_f]Emmaline[/name_f] and [name_u]Everly[/name_u], but in my opinion, the nicknames [name_f]Emmy[/name_f] and [name_f]Evie[/name_f] are too similar to [name_f]Elle[/name_f]. Maybe [name_f]Emmaline[/name_f] nn [name_f]Lina[/name_f] would work better with [name_f]Elle[/name_f]?

In terms of mn combinations, I like:
[name_f]Madeline[/name_f] [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]
[name_f]Madeline[/name_f] [name_u]Barrie[/name_u]
[name_f]Bridgette[/name_f] [name_f]Adeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Bridgette[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmaline[/name_f] [name_u]Barrie[/name_u]
[name_f]Emmaline[/name_f] [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]

Some other suggestions are [name_f]Thalia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Lia[/name_f] or [name_f]Juliette[/name_f] nn [name_u]Jules[/name_u] or [name_u]Julie[/name_u].

If you went with [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] [name_f]Brigette[/name_f], you could use [name_f]Mabry[/name_f] as a nickname.

I love all of the names you have discussed. [name_f]My[/name_f] favourite is [name_f]Bridgette[/name_f]. I have always had a soft spot for this name , I love that it ties the [name_u]French[/name_u] heritage as well as a beautiful match for [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]

Bridgette [name_u]Barrie[/name_u] ( [name_f]Bree[/name_f], [name_m]Bear[/name_m] , BB)
[name_f]Bridgette[/name_f] [name_f]Adeline[/name_f]

My second favourite is [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] , although maybe a little popular
[name_f]Madeline[/name_f] [name_u]Barrie[/name_u] ([name_f]Maddie[/name_f] ,[name_f]Addie[/name_f] , [name_f]Eline[/name_f] , Mabie)

Hi there.

Isabelle [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] nn [name_f]Elle[/name_f] is quite lovely. Here are my thoughts for #2-

Bridgette nn [name_f]Bree[/name_f]-Ooh, I like [name_f]Bridgette[/name_f]. I typically prefer the more simple [name_f]Bridget[/name_f], but w/Isabelle [name_f]Bridgette[/name_f] does look better. [name_f]Bree[/name_f] is not my personal cup of tea, but it’s not bad. It sounds good w/Elle. [name_f]Bree[/name_f] always just seemed a little snooty to me. I love the nn [name_f]Bridie[/name_f], but w/big sister [name_f]Elle[/name_f]…what about the nn [name_f]Bette[/name_f]? That’d be gorgeous.

Caroline-This is nice. A good solid classic. Not super special, but pretty & grows up well.

Madeline nn [name_f]Mae[/name_f]-[name_f]Elle[/name_f] & [name_f]Mae[/name_f] would be amazing. [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] is really pretty & cheerful.

Emmeline nn [name_f]Emmy[/name_f]-[name_f]Emmy[/name_f] is a little too cutesy for my taste. And it especially sounds cutesy next to the elegant [name_f]Elle[/name_f]. I like [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], but prefer [name_f]Emma[/name_f]-line. And people will probably say it that way a lot. I think…

Scarlett-It’s not awful, but I don’t personally love it. It is really popular & just sounds kind of dark & dramatic.

Savannah-This is not my style. Kind of 90s trendy sounding.

Everly nn [name_f]Evie[/name_f]-Basically every other kid I meet is some form of ‘[name_f]Evie[/name_f]’…usually [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] nn [name_f]Evie[/name_f]. I’m guessing some are Everlys too. [name_u]Everly[/name_u] just seems a little trendy & not as classic as [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f].

Are you opposed to [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] as a fn? [name_m]Even[/name_m] though I meet just about as many Addies as I do Evies (usually Adelyns or Addisons), I still love [name_f]Adeline[/name_f]. It’s beautiful w/Isabelle.

Here are a few more ideas that you may like-

Adelaide

Antonia nn [name_f]Ani[/name_f]

Celeste

Camilla nn [name_f]Mila[/name_f]-[name_f]Mila[/name_f] is really popular though.

Georgina nn [name_f]Gigi[/name_f] or [name_u]Georgie[/name_u]

Gwendolen nn [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] or [name_f]Gigi[/name_f]

Genevieve nn [name_f]Gigi[/name_f], [name_f]Evie[/name_f] or [name_f]Vivie[/name_f]

Juliet

Josephine

Lucia nn [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] or [name_f]Lulu[/name_f]

Phoebe

Rose nn [name_f]Rosie[/name_f]

Rosalie nn [name_f]Rosie[/name_f]

Rosalind nn [name_f]Rosie[/name_f]

Rosamund nn [name_f]Rosie[/name_f]

Vivian nn [name_f]Vivie[/name_f]

Quite like [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Bree[/name_f] which I think sounds pretty with [name_f]Isobelle[/name_f] [name_f]Blyth[/name_f]
You would have an [name_f]Elle[/name_f] and a [name_f]Emmy[/name_f] or you could use [name_u]Mel[/name_u] or [name_f]Millie[/name_f] from [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]

Caroline [name_u]Barrie[/name_u] is stunning but I feel like you may want a nickname so it matches better with [name_f]Elle[/name_f]. Maybe [name_f]Cari[/name_f] or [name_f]Cara[/name_f]?

I also love [name_f]Bridgette[/name_f] [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] with [name_f]Bree[/name_f] as a nickname. So pretty!

I prefer the [name_u]French[/name_u] spelling [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] which would be really pretty. I find [name_f]Mae[/name_f] feeling a little forced though as I think the nickname would just be [name_f]Maddie[/name_f]. But I like [name_f]Elle[/name_f] and [name_f]Maddie[/name_f]. [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] [name_u]Barrie[/name_u] is really stunning as well.

[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] is gorgeous with [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]! Initially I thought [name_f]Elle[/name_f] and [name_f]Emmy[/name_f] were perhaps too close but on further thought I don’t think they are at all. [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] or Caroline would be my second choice.

[name_m]Can[/name_m] I suggest [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]? It’s less popular than [name_f]Madeline[/name_f], goes beautifully with [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f], and allows you to use [name_f]Mae[/name_f] as a nickname if you’d like (or the super cute [name_f]Tilly[/name_f], or [name_f]Tilda[/name_f], or [name_u]Matty[/name_u]).

Isabelle [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] is gorgeous!
So many good suggestions so far, I don’t have much to add, so I’m adding my support behind a few suggestions
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_u]Barrie[/name_u] is pretty much perfection - and I love the nickname [name_f]Faye[/name_f], especially with [name_f]Elle[/name_f]
I love the suggestion of [name_f]Bridgette[/name_f] called [name_f]Birdie[/name_f]
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] called [name_u]Kit[/name_u] is fabulous - [name_u]Rory[/name_u] could work for [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] as well (and of course for [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f])
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] could be [name_f]Lena[/name_f] (pronounced [name_f]Leena[/name_f]) - I really love [name_f]Elle[/name_f] and [name_f]Lena[/name_f] together.
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] called [name_f]Delia[/name_f]
[name_f]Adeline[/name_f] as a first would be really pretty. She could go by [name_f]Delia[/name_f] or [name_f]Lena[/name_f] as well (both are a bit of stretch, but I think they could work!)

Another vote for [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] or [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] and a first (perfect)

You could also use [name_f]Etta[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_f]Bridgette[/name_f]

Beatrice nn [name_f]Bea[/name_f] could be another option? [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] is gorgeous.

Mae, as a first name, is spunky, sweet, and refreshing all in one! I just love it.

I’d suggest:
Mae Madeline
Mae Adeline

Emmeline & Isabelle is a beautiful sister sibling set, especially with nn Emmy & Elle. Adeline as a first name is also one of my favorites from your list, especially since it’s a family name.

Genevieve, “Evie”, comes to mind with big sister Isabelle.

Your choices are gorgeous. I think [name_f]Bridgette[/name_f] [name_u]Barrie[/name_u] is my favorite; I love alliteration. I’d like [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] nn [name_f]Mae[/name_f] a bit more than [name_f]Madeline[/name_f].
Some suggestions, for what it’s worth:
