So my wife saw the name [name_f]Elleri[/name_f]/Ellery yesterday and really liked it. And I’m definitely liking it too.
However… my name is [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f], which all my family and friends call me, except my sister and mom, they call me [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]. and my wife and her family only know me as [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]. We live in Norway though with my family whereas hers lives in the UK. So usually my full name is used except for at home.
I’m not getting attached to the name because I’m pretty sure we’d get weird looks calling our daughter [name_u]Ellery[/name_u] when I go by [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]… or? I honestly don’t know how I feel about it. But I do adore the name
I do think [name_u]Ellery[/name_u] is too close if you usually go by [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], sorry. I worry it would be confusing if someone called your name, you might both turn your heads, and having that happen constantly would be pretty frustrating, I think. Maybe you could use it as a middle name? That way you get to use it, but not in daily life?
Ellery reminds me of Celery that aside I think it would be a bit confusing to have an ELLE-ry and an [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], the names are too alike since you don’t really go by [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f], I recommend names similar to it such as [name_u]Avery[/name_u] and [name_u]Bailey[/name_u]?
Ellery is a really lovely name that has been growing on me as well completely get why you really like this!
But I think [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] & [name_u]Ellery[/name_u] are too similar so personally I would choose a different name. I think @princesspanda suggestion of [name_u]Avery[/name_u] is a good shout. [name_u]Avery[/name_u] is a really sweet spunky name.
I think [name_u]Ellery[/name_u] is different enough to [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] but I would assume it was done to honour you slightly. So long as you don’t mind that, [name_u]Ellery[/name_u] is lovely
I don’t mind it personally. But I don’t think my MIL would like it. Not that it really matters she doesn’t like [name_u]Maxwell[/name_u] either…
But Her middle name would be [name_f]Grace[/name_f] which is my wife’s second middle name. And a family name on her side, so I’m also worried that’s a bit “much” with two names similar to her parents. Ugh why are there so many things to take into consideration when finding a name
I don’t think it’s too similar, though it think it would be a noticeable thing!
If you were looking for more general feedback on the name, it makes me think of Celery. But that’s not a terrible thing if it’s “the one.”
