We’re down to our final 4 weeks and still have not settled on a name for our 2nd daughter. We’ve narrowed it down to two but since we’re not telling our extended family her name I need some help on determining which one it should be. I feel like I question the first name too much even though I really like it & I have to talk myself into the second one even thought I really like that one as well. Help me please!
[name_f]Ellia[/name_f] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]
[name_f]Do[/name_f] the 1st & middle names rhyme too much
Our oldest daughters name is [name_f]Lyla[/name_f], are there too many “L” sounds when saying them together
I would pronounce this name [name_f]EL[/name_f]-ee-ah, would there be confusion on pronunciation
OR–
[name_u]Eden[/name_u] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]
I fear everyone calling her [name_f]Edy[/name_f] (which i guess may grow on me) Then again, it’s not [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] which I feel has become very popular
It has the same syllable count as our two older children ([name_m]Jackson[/name_m] [name_m]Anthony[/name_m] & [name_f]Lyla[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]), I don’t know why this matters to me so much
It doesn’t end in the same way as our other kids ('son or 'la), which I was hoping for
I don’t think they really rhyme at all, at least not with the emphasis on the “[name_f]EL[/name_f]”.
There are a few too many “L” sounds for my personal taste; I’d definitely get a little tongue-tied.
I think the pronunciation is clear: if it were [name_u]Elia[/name_u], it would be more difficult, but [name_f]Ellia[/name_f] is pretty straight-forward.
I prefer [name_u]Eden[/name_u] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f], personally, and I think [name_u]Eden[/name_u] matches [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] really nicely. If you’re not sold on it, though, don’t try to force yourself! Go with your gut, it’s your most important critic.
I prefer the sound of [name_f]Ellia[/name_f] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] and I think it has the same feel as your other kid’s names. Both are lovely names though.
I do think [name_f]Ellia[/name_f] and [name_f]Lyla[/name_f] are too similar. I might get tongue tied saying them both. But I do think if you love it it’ll work. [name_f]Ellia[/name_f] is a beautiful name! And I don’t think you will have a pronunciation problem.
I personally prefer [name_u]Eden[/name_u], it’s just more my style. But also the fact that the endings of all your kids will be different. For some reason that was always important to me when naming my kids. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though it’s not a big deal
[name_u]Eden[/name_u] is a personal fave, and I think in your case, [name_u]Eden[/name_u] might be slightly better to use because it goes a bit better with [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]. Congrats!
[name_f]Ellia[/name_f] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] sounds a bit like the now-out-of-business jewelry company “[name_f]Lia[/name_f] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]” but it’s not necessarily a bad name. You might hear the comparison a lot.
I definitely prefer [name_u]Eden[/name_u], it just has a stronger sound to it while [name_f]Ellia[/name_f] sounds a bit wishy washy. [name_u]Eden[/name_u] also goes beautifully with [name_f]Lyla[/name_f]. Personally I love the nn [name_f]Edie[/name_f] too, it means she can give herself a more traditional / vintage type of name in the future if she prefers. ([name_f]Keira[/name_f] Knightly just called her baby girl [name_f]Edie[/name_f], so it’s all the rage! Not sure if that would sway you for or against!)
definitely eden with lyla. I feel like ellia would always be confused for ella, while eden is short enough not to be shortened in edy (I think edie is adorable, anyway).
