I so need some help. The names [name_u]Elliot[/name_u], [name_m]Keith[/name_m], and [name_m]Graham[/name_m], what do you like and dislike about the names? I know for present day they are probably dated, however, these are possible characters in a story and they are age appropriate.
All I want to achieve with this thread is thoughts, feelings, first impressions.
If you know anyone with these names, what are they like?
Of the three names, which name most sticks out to you as Mr. Nice [name_m]Guy[/name_m]?
[name_u]Elliot[/name_u] - Actually, this is one of my all-time favorite names. It’s on my list right now. I like the spelling [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] better, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with this spelling. I honestly can’t find anything wrong with this name. I love it!
[name_m]Keith[/name_m] - My immediate association with [name_m]Keith[/name_m] is either [name_u]Toby[/name_u] [name_m]Keith[/name_m] or the character in the Outsider’s whose name is [name_m]Keith[/name_m], although he goes by a nickname and his real name is only ever mentioned once. I think it’s a fine name, but for some reason, I can only picture a cowboy/redneck character. Granted, that’s not really a problem - if I met a baby named [name_m]Keith[/name_m], I would probably start picturing him and whatever he was rather than a redneck. It’s only because I don’t know anyone named [name_m]Keith[/name_m].
[name_m]Graham[/name_m] - I think this name is fine, but I wouldn’t ever use it. It’s not really my style. I think it has a nice sound, but I can’t get past graham crackers…Hahaha
All things considered, I think they’re all great choices! [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] is definitely my favorite
I don’t think of [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] or [name_m]Graham[/name_m] as dated at all. [name_m]Both[/name_m] are handsome, nice-guy names, imo. Perhaps [name_m]Graham[/name_m] especially.
[name_m]Keith[/name_m] definitely feel outdated to me. Not that it’s not a nice guy name, but maybe a little douche-y, like 80’s high school jock. (sorry!)
I don’t think [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] and [name_m]Graham[/name_m] are dated. [name_m]Keith[/name_m], yeah a bit.
I have never met an [name_u]Elliot[/name_u], [name_m]Graham[/name_m] or [name_m]Keith[/name_m] in real life, so unfortunately I don’t have any real associations to give you.
The first thing I think of when I hear [name_m]Keith[/name_m] is a joke on SNL a couple years ago that called [name_m]Keith[/name_m] “the ugliest male name in history” or something like that. I think of an assertive, sometimes aggressive and rude guy who is CEO of a company or makes a lot of money, but no one really likes him.
[name_u]Elliot[/name_u]; I think of kind of a nerd, but a nice guy. A guy who was the best student in his high school chem class, is a family man and is a successful adult.
[name_m]Graham[/name_m] is definitely the “mr. nice guy” name of the bunch. Jolly, happy, always smiling, good boyfriend/husband. Perhaps a mediocre athlete who loves watching football on Sundays but can’t throw a good spiral!
[name_m]Just[/name_m] my thoughts on these names and the “guys” I picture behind the names! I hope this helps!
None of the three are my faves but I would rate them as follows:
1 [name_m]Graham[/name_m] - he seems like a friendly and approachable fellow. I think of Irish talk show host [name_m]Graham[/name_m] [name_m]Norton[/name_m].
2 [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] - serious and studious gentleman
3 [name_m]Keith[/name_m] - this name is the most “dated” choice. He is more of a surfer dude.
