Hey all! [name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I really want to name our daughter, [name_u]Elliot[/name_u]! I’m a minister at a church and when we started telling people the name, many began to call her [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]. We both like the name [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], but we really want her to go by [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] and only use [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] occasionally. What do you think?
Also, we’re stuck on middle names. We really like [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] and [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] [name_f]Kate[/name_f], but we think [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] is too unisex. We need middle name suggestions, but because I’m a minister we want to stay away from middle names like [name_f]Joy[/name_f], [name_f]Faith[/name_f], [name_f]Grace[/name_f], etc. We don’t want her name to reflect that she’s a PK (preacher’s kid.) Many thanks over, [name_u]Allie[/name_u] and [name_u]Michael[/name_u] [name_m]Williams[/name_m].
P.S. We’ve received some really negative and hurtful feedback about [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] on a girl. Please keep it positive or constructive!
If I were you, I’d stay away from unisex middle names. When faced with a unisex first name on paper, a lot of people will look to the middle to decide the person’s sex. With [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] as a very boy-leaning name, popularity wise, I think your lives will be MUCH easier with a female middle name.
I like [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] [name_f]Kate[/name_f]. [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] is nice if you want the middle name to be a bit more formal, but [name_f]Kate[/name_f] flows well and [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] would be a cute occasional pet name.
I don’t mean this to be harsh but I would encourage you to to keep [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] for future boys. [name_f]My[/name_f] suggestion would be:
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_u]Morgan[/name_u]
Using a feminine middle name won’t guarantee that people will know your [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] is not a boy. Not everyone knows middle names and not every form will have a middle name, so people won’t always have the choice to differ to the middle name when trying to figure out whether your child is actually [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] or just pretending to be someone else (I hope that made sense). Not trying to be negative but it is something to consider.
I like how spunky [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] is on a girl. I think a longer middle is a good idea. [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] is pretty. I would personally call her “[name_f]Ellie[/name_f] [name_f]Kat[/name_f],” which is just the best. [name_f]My[/name_f] five year old writes [name_f]Cat[/name_f] as her middle name on all of her school papers, though it isn’t her name at all. So cute.
If you want people to know [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] is a girl you have hundreds of choices. [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Ella[/name_f], just straight up [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], [name_f]Elaine[/name_f], [name_f]Elena[/name_f], [name_f]Electra[/name_f], [name_f]Ellen[/name_f], [name_f]Elsa[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] why pick a boy name? I don’t understand your logic. Why give your child a boys name if you want it to be known she’s a girl? [name_m]Just[/name_m] pick a girls name. You have plenty of options, unlike parents of sons.
