[name_m]Hi[/name_m] nameberries,
I really love the name [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] for a girl!
However, I would like your opinion whether you think [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] is more of a girls name or a boys name?
It just reminds me so much of [name_f]Alice[/name_f] as it has the same pronunciation.
Thanks for your input!
Ps. My first girl’s name is [name_u]Skye[/name_u] and we are still not sure yet for the name of baby 2.
I definitely prefer it on a boy, but I also have boy family members named [name_u]Ellis[/name_u]
I’ve only ever known a female [name_u]Ellis[/name_u], so it’s all-girl to me. I can imagine it working well for a boy too, though.
I think it works well for both, but it leans boy for me
Ditto above! Of course, it can feel girlier if you shorten it to [name_f]Elle[/name_f]/[name_f]Ellie[/name_f].
It’s all boy to me, but I wouldn’t be surprised to meet a girl named [name_u]Ellis[/name_u].
I think of it as a boys name, though I think it could work on a girl. It’s only one letter off from [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] or [name_f]Ellia[/name_f], which is probably why I think it would work for girls.
I only know one [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] and he is a little boy. But it has always been unisex to me.
[name_u]Ellis[/name_u] [name_u]Grey[/name_u] from [name_u]Grey[/name_u]'s Anatomy definitely makes it wearable on a girl.
I think it works well for either, although I don’t pronounce it the same as [name_f]Alice[/name_f], so it doesn’t feel truly girly to me. If I had to choose, I think I’d prefer to hear it on a boy.
The first time I heard the name [name_u]Ellis[/name_u], was on Greys Anatomy. both characters with the name are girls, so it definitely leans more girl to me.
(I think it’s pretty unisex, though, and could also work on a boy!)
Also, as pp has said, I pronounce [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] slightly different to [name_f]Alice[/name_f].
I definitely think of boy. Like previous posters have said - you could nn [name_f]Elle[/name_f] or [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]. If you really want the name for a girl, maybe [name_f]Eilis[/name_f] is worth considering too?
I think it works for either. [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] was the name [name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Bronte[/name_f] used as her alias so I associate it with her.
I have a cousin called [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] and he is a boy. I would say the name suits boys better than girls!
[name_u]Ellis[/name_u] is 100% boy to me.
i have [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] on my girls list but it is a name that i believe is honestly unisex
It leans boy to me. I don’t pronounce [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] and [name_f]Alice[/name_f] the same though.
I initially say boy but I have known a girl called [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] and it suited her fine.
Where I’m from [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] and [name_f]Alice[/name_f] are said differently, so I don’t see any connection at all.
I have boy associations with [name_u]Ellis[/name_u], I’ve never heard it on a girl. [name_f]Elise[/name_f] for a girl [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] for a boy. But that’s just my opinion
I know both boy and girl with this name and truly think it works for either!
I like [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] equally for any baby.
