Ellis or Everett?

I need advice  I’m pregnant with our second boy and having a hard time deciding on his name. I’m going back and forth between [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] and [name_u]Everett[/name_u]. It’s difficult naming a second kid! Our first is [name_u]Finn[/name_u] and his name was so easy because I’ve always loved it, it’s been a bit harder this time around.

I think the front runner is [name_u]Ellis[/name_u]. I love the way it sounds, that it’s Welsh and has a cool meaning, and it seems like a good name for [name_u]Finn[/name_u]'s brother ([name_u]Finn[/name_u] and [name_u]Ellis[/name_u]!).

I love [name_u]Everett[/name_u] too, it’s a handsome wintery name to me (and baby is due this winter) but it’s a bit popular and I can’t tell if it’s going to stay where it is or if it’s going to hit maximum density. I start to hate names when I hear them too many times at the playground because I’m a huge weird name snob.

So [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] feels a bit cooler and fresher. And [name_u]Finn[/name_u] & [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] sound so great together. But then I worry a bit about the girl name thing. It’s such a huge trend right now for girls to get masculine names. Where I’m from (the Southern US) I’ve only ever heard [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] used as a girl’s name. Where I currently live (Northern US) I’ve only heard it on boys, and where we’re moving before baby is born (west coast) it’s hardly used at all- like maybe 18 born in the state- so I feel like [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] would be the only one in his class, and possibly/probably his school.

[name_u]Ellis[/name_u] is still trending for the guys and just on its own, [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] reads all dude to me. I also think it’s adorable on a girl. It seems to be one of those rare names that really does work for either gender, maybe because it’s so similar to either [name_u]Elias[/name_u] or [name_f]Alice[/name_f]. Which is kind of cool. But I still think of [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] as a masculine name, if that makes sense?

The [name_u]Ellis[/name_u]/[name_u]Everett[/name_u] thing is tough. [name_u]Finn[/name_u] was easy because I’ve always loved that name. Boy names are so hard! At least I don’t have to decide for quite a while.

Any thoughts berries? I’ve also thought about going with [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] [name_u]Everett[/name_u] if I can’t decide  Other name ideas for [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] are [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] [name_m]Graham[/name_m] and [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]

I love the idea of [name_u]Finn[/name_u] and [name_u]Ellis[/name_u]! It’s so charming! And I wouldn’t worry too much about [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] being to well used as a girl’s name, there are so many names like [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] or [name_u]Adrien[/name_u] that are used so interchangebly, [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] is just fine  and I personally love the idea of [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] [name_u]Everett[/name_u]

Good luck and congrats!

I love [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] & [name_u]Finn[/name_u]!!! [name_u]Everett[/name_u] was on my list for my son (who is two) and I was worried about it continuing to get trendier & more popular. It’s trending upward and I think it will continue to do so. I love [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] and it is so much more unique. [name_u]Finn[/name_u] & [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] are perfect together. So many names are unisex these days and boys names are being used for girls so who knows [name_u]Everett[/name_u] could also start being used for girls!! If you were considering [name_u]Harper[/name_u] or a wildly popular unisex name being mostly used for girls, I would say no. But [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] is traditionally a boys name, is mostly still being used for boys, and is a pretty rare in general.

I adore [name_u]Finn[/name_u]. I think both [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] and [name_u]Everett[/name_u] go well with [name_u]Finn[/name_u]. Personally, I slightly prefer [name_u]Finn[/name_u] and [name_u]Everett[/name_u]. They sound like an adventurous, outdoorsy, creative set.

I think both names are great options, but my personal preference is [name_u]Ellis[/name_u]. I think it goes great with [name_u]Finn[/name_u] & it’s a great name for a baby boy!

[name_u]Ellis[/name_u], not a fan of [name_u]Everett[/name_u]

Thanks all! This has been helpful. I’m leaning toward [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] [name_u]Everett[/name_u] since that would solve my problem of liking both names.

I prefer [name_u]Ellis[/name_u].
