What’s your impression on the name [name_u]Ellis[/name_u]? Boy name or girl name? We’re expecting a new little one and don’t know the sex, but are looking for an E name to go with [name_u]Everett[/name_u]. I’m finding that boy names are a little more challenging this time around. Looking for any ideas and suggestions for other names, in addition to [name_u]Ellis[/name_u]. Thanks!
[name_u]Ellis[/name_u] is pretty gender-neutral in my book. [name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Bronte[/name_f] used [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] as her pen name back in the 1800s to obscure her gender without using an “overtly” male name. It’s similar to the popular [name_f]Alice[/name_f] and [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] in sound, but its surname-y quality makes it plenty suitable for a boy as well.
Other “E” names:
[name_m]Eben[/name_m]
[name_m]Edmund[/name_m]
[name_m]Edward[/name_m]
[name_u]Elias[/name_u]
[name_m]Eliseo[/name_m]
[name_u]Embry[/name_u]
[name_m]Emile[/name_m]
[name_m]Emmanuel[/name_m]
[name_m]Enzo[/name_m]
[name_m]Ephraim[/name_m]
[name_m]Eric[/name_m] (my name, haha)
[name_m]Esau[/name_m]
[name_m]Ewan[/name_m]
[name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m]
[name_m]Ezra[/name_m]
Good luck!
Eudo is an old Norse name I rather like. [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] is ok…kind of forgettable, but gentle and nice.
I only know of one [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] and it’s a girl who is elementary school age. I think it is pretty unisex but I guess slightly lean toward a girl association since the name [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] is so popular right now.
I like [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] as a middle choice but it works for a first too. I don’t get why people name their girls [name_u]Ellis[/name_u]. What about [name_u]Emerson[/name_u] or [name_u]Emery[/name_u]?
[name_u]Ellis[/name_u] is a male name. There are plenty of [name_f]El[/name_f]- names for girls without invading the boys’ camp.
If you’re considering [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] for a boy, great! [name_u]Everett[/name_u] and [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] are preppy and handsome as brothers.
Ditto this. I do know a little girl named [name_u]Ellis[/name_u]. I’ve known her for some years and still can’t get used to her name. It just seems so wrong and I cringe a little every time I hear it. She’s perfectly sweet, but I just can’t get past her name. If you really like it for a girl, I’d recommend it as a middle instead.
I think that [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] is pretty gender neutral. I also like [name_m]Eli[/name_m], [name_m]Edwin[/name_m], and [name_m]Ethan[/name_m] for boys. [name_f]Emily[/name_f] is a good girl name (my name ), or I love the name [name_f]Eva[/name_f] for a girl too!
[name_u]Ellis[/name_u] is one of the few names that sound totally unisex, in my opinion. I wouldn’t raise an eyebrow if I heard it on either a boy or a girl.
I know an [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] and it is a boy. But it could work either way.
I think boy name. It would seem odd to me to meet a girl named [name_u]Ellis[/name_u].
Actually she used so as no one would even think she might possibly be female, same with her sisters’ names.
I really like [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] btw, and I think it’s great with [name_u]Everett[/name_u] but only for a boy.
Thanks everyone for your feedback. It was really helpful. I am leaning toward [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] as a boy name.
So sorry – I completely misread your original post. I thought you were thinking [name_u]Everett[/name_u] as a boy’s name and [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] as a girl’s name, but now that I’m a bit more awake, I see you already have [name_u]Everett[/name_u] [name_u]Curtis[/name_u] (great name!!). I love [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] as a boy’s name, and it also puts me in mind of [name_u]Elias[/name_u] and [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] – also names I love. For girls, I like [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Elise[/name_f], [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], [name_f]Effie[/name_f] (on my list as a nn for [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], but could maybe be on its own), or maybe [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] … [name_u]Everett[/name_u] and [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f]. I love [name_f]Emma[/name_f] too, but I’m guessing it’s a bit too popular for you based on [name_u]Everett[/name_u].
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] that helps!
