I think I’m just a little bit in love with Elma! It’s so soft and substantial imo, but my mum has a close friend with this name so I don’t think I could ever use it. What do you think?
It’s cute, but reminds me a bit of Elmo You might like Alma as an alternative idea?
I do like [name_f]Alma[/name_f], but I love how [name_f]Elma[/name_f] has the ‘elm’ part (like the tree) which makes it feel a lot softer to me, I pronounce [name_f]Alma[/name_f] with a short A vowel at the start (like you’d pronounce the start of Alice) which doesn’t appeal quite so much. But I know the [name_m]Elmo[/name_m] connection is strong
I completely understand. I pronounce Alma like ‘Ahl-muh’ which is definitely softer than ‘Al-muh.’
I feel like maybe [name_f]Wilma[/name_f] has potential to win the -lma name battle for me but I’m considering them all!
I prefer [name_f]Alma[/name_f] but it’s a nice name
Though I prefer Ɛlvᴀ to most names of similar ilk, [name_f]Elma[/name_f] is surprising me. I am really liking it… it’s a very sweet and underused name today.
I like it. I like [name_f]Elmira[/name_f] too a lot which is getting kind of odd. But [name_f]Elma[/name_f] could be a nickname for [name_f]Elmira[/name_f].
Adding [name_f]Embla[/name_f] as a second suggestion!
[name_f]Elma[/name_f] is nice in [name_f]English[/name_f] but it’s also the Turkish word for apple, which I guess doesn’t matter if you aren’t in Turkey! It does sound quite sweet.
That’s quite cute actually!
I have an elderly relation with this name… She’s a lovely person, but I find it hard to dissociate this name from its old-fashioned image. I do really like [name_f]Alma[/name_f] though (reading The [name_m]History[/name_m] of [name_u]Love[/name_u] by [name_f]Nicole[/name_f] Krauss made me fall in love with it).
It means apple in my language… we don’t use food names as given names so it sounds odd to me. That’s just me though! It’s nice for you.
It’s nice, though tbh honest I first read it as [name_m]Elmo[/name_m] and I feel like at least in the US that’ll be a strong association.
