Eloise..getting too trendy?

[name]Morning[/name] berries!

[name]Just[/name] wanted to get your thoughts on the name [name]Eloise[/name]. Been on my list forever and I still love it. My dh does too! What do you think of…[name]Eloise[/name] [name]Amelia[/name]? Nn [name]Elle[/name] and sometimes [name]LuLu[/name] too :). I like [name]Lola[/name] as well, just don’t know if it feels like too much of a stretch. [name]Hope[/name] the nn [name]Ellie[/name] does not happen… it’s cute and all but so popular. Won’t let people call her that! Haha

*Would you consider this to be a pretty name?

*My only huge concern is the “Wheeze” sound at the end plus it’s increasing popularity. I hope it never becomes like [name]Isabella[/name], [name]Emma[/name], or [name]Sophia[/name]. But at the same time, I don’t want to go with a different name that I don’t love as much just because the popularity level is better. Kwim? Plus, I think this name goes perfectly with her siblings. I looove the very old fashioned/vintage vibe and how the name flows.

Thanks ladies!

I love the name [name]Eloise[/name]! I knew a little girl with that name and she was just the cutest thing! Definitely not too trendy, and I love the nn [name]Lulu[/name]!

I love it ! I agree it goes perfect with her siblings and is really pretty.

I love the name [name]Eloise[/name], and I think the nickname [name]Lola[/name] totally comes naturally from it. My only concern with the name would be the rising popularity, like you said. My pregnant sister considered [name]Eloise[/name] before landing on [name]Sophia[/name] ( :frowning: #1 name in [name]America[/name]!), so that gives you an idea of her taste. If SHE was considering [name]Eloise[/name], then it’s trendy! But it may not rise to as high a level as [name]Sophia[/name]. Popularity WOULD stop me from using a name that I love, but if it doesn’t bother you, then by all means go for it. I had actually planned to call my baby niece [name]Lola[/name] if her name had been [name]Eloise[/name]!

I really like [name]Eloise[/name] too! I actually think [name]Lola[/name] is a more natural nickname than [name]Lulu[/name], but both work well. If you think [name]Eloise[/name] is getting too popular, you might consider [name]Elodie[/name]. Plus, [name]Elodie[/name] doesn’t have the “weeze” sound in it that you seem not to like, and you could still use the nick name [name]Lola[/name] (although it would be more of a stretch).

Thanks so much for the feedback so far

I think it’s beautiful. I’d be surprised if it became as popular as a name like [name]Isabella[/name]. [name]Isabella[/name] had the pop culture thing driving it and I don’t think any celebrity or TV show/movie/popular book has used the [name]Eloise[/name] name yet? I know the “[name]Ellie[/name]” nickname and “l” sound are very popular right now, but there’s so many different ways to get at this. I think “[name]Lulu[/name]” is a perfect nickname for [name]Eloise[/name]. It’s my youngest daughter’s nickname, but her full name is [name]Lucy[/name]. (See, different ways to get at it!) I think you could have some control over the nicknames, but the “[name]Ellie[/name]” thing may happen from time to time. If I were you, I’d just want to be prepared for the possibility.

I do think there are some trendy things about this name, but I wouldn’t let this stop you if you love it. It’s how I felt about my youngest daughter’s name. It has a classic feel, but it’s trendy in that it’s gaining popularity quickly. I went for it anyway.

Beautiful!~ I have never met an [name]Eloise[/name] in real life!

No I don’t think [name]Eloise[/name] is too popular at all. I love [name]Eloise[/name]. I like the vintage feel it has too it as well. [name]Elle[/name] and [name]Lulu[/name] are cute nicknames and it sounds great with your other kids!

Thanks!! Yeah I don’t mind the nn [name]Ellie[/name], I mean, it is cute. It’s popular but if some people call her that I can definitely deal with it ;). So glad you ladies like [name]Elle[/name] and [name]LuLu[/name] for nn’s! It feels like it fits her already :). Im
Still going to look around an I do have a short list but I can see myself going with [name]Eloise[/name] [name]Amelia[/name]. Sounds sweet and warm. The wheeze sound is there but this name has so much to offer, I don’t even mind it so much. I love how elegant and flowy this name
Is. It’s really fun to say!

[name]Eloise[/name] is a cute name…def not trendy where I live, I’ve never met an [name]Eloise[/name] in my life. Seems like a sweet name for a little girl but def would mature nicely w/ her as well!

PS [name]Lola[/name] could work…I know a Mom who has a daughter [name]Aurora[/name] and always calls her [name]Lola[/name]…so if that can work, def [name]Eloise[/name] could be [name]Lola[/name]! PS [name]Eloise[/name] [name]Amelia[/name] is gorgeous.

[name]Eloise[/name] is pretty much unchallenged at the top of my girls’ list, and like you I’m worried about trendiness. [name]Silly[/name] as it sounds, I was relieved when Upswing [name]Baby[/name] Name’s 2020 predictions didn’t mention [name]Eloise[/name] at all!

Honestly, I think with girls’ names it’s just really hard to guess. [name]Eloise[/name] does have all the elements of popularity - the ‘[name]El[/name]’ prefix, a literary reference, a Continental and vintage vibe - but then, [name]Matilda[/name] also has a popular opening vowel, literary reference, and retro edge, and she doesn’t even chart in [name]America[/name]. [name]Eloise[/name] is undeniably shooting up the charts, but she might just hit a ceiling and hover in the 500’s, or even begin to trend down.

I think you should use the name you love. What if you decide against [name]Eloise[/name] and choose a name you like less in order to avoid trendiness, and the name you pick ends up hitting the Top 10 while [name]Eloise[/name] fades into obscurity?

As a fail-safe measure you might want to choose a middle name that’s rare and shows no signs of becoming otherwise. Then even if [name]Eloise[/name] ends up being the fourth in her class, she can go as [name]Eloise[/name] [rare middle name], or even [name]Ellie[/name] [rare middle name], which will distinguish her from her peers.

Thanks so much!! Yeah very good point. If I go with another name that isn’t as popular and then gains popularity like crazy fr some reason yet [name]Eloise[/name] stays relatively the same, I will be kicking myself! Haha. I feel such a strong connection to this name. [name]Even[/name] though this little one isn’t born yet…it feels like her.

And great idea about coming up with an uncommon mn. [name]Amelia[/name] has some
Meaning for us though and whenever I picture using this name…I picture it with [name]Amelia[/name] as the middle name spot. Wouldn’t feel the same without it

But in the same line of thinking…the nn’s could be my fail-safe measure. [name]Love[/name] [name]Elle[/name] so will use that but I think either [name]LuLu[/name] or [name]Lola[/name] as nn’s will forever make her stand out, which I like. I love both but would only choose one. Hmmm. Still, would use the full name most of the time. It makes me feel better to have one of those nn’s ready and to use occasionally if that makes sense…ha!

This is the only name that sticks with me. I like Sooo many girl names, but…they never pair up to [name]Eloise[/name]
