Our other top two contenders are [name]Felicity[/name] and [name]Adelaide[/name] (which I just realized is your DD’s name – how very interesting! ). I love both of them as full names, but neither has a nickname I like – at least not as much as I love [name]Eloise[/name]/[name]Lola[/name]. I have another thread on here talking about my desperate love of [name]Felicity[/name], but DH and I just can’t find a nn we can settle on and as all three of our other girls are consistently called by their nn’s, it’s hard to imagine not having one for this baby, too.
I completely understand and relate! DD#1 was changed on the way to the hospital (for the 9+ mos leading up till that moment she had been [name]Cecily[/name]). DD#2 was adopted and we changed our minds when we saw her photo for the first time (until then, she had been [name]Eleanor[/name] – upon seeing her picture, we knew right away she was no [name]Eleanor[/name]!). DD#3 was really the only one whose name stuck from mid-pregnancy on (although her middle name changed at the last minute). Right now I’m planning to take all three names to the hospital with us and just wait till DD#4 is born to make a final decision. Somehow in my head I have this picture of what each name “looks like” – I think I’ll know when I see her whether she’s an [name]Eloise[/name], a [name]Felicity[/name] or an [name]Adelaide[/name]!
[name]Love[/name] the combo! [name]Eloise[/name] is not pretentious or too French to me either. We’re in the US if that matters. I know it’s a more established name in the UK and other place in Europe, but it’s not as common in the US. Congrats on DD #3!
If you are not completely set on [name]Eloise[/name], I will suggest [name]Alice[/name] for you. I’m only suggesting it because my daughter [name]Alice[/name] was called “[name]Eloise[/name]” for the majority of my pregnancy. Plus you do have two daughters with A names so far-- though I understand your hesitation to use another one. She only became [name]Alice[/name] less than a week before she was born-- just fell in love with the name and I can’t explain how it felt more right. Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like [name]Eloise[/name] and [name]Alice[/name] have somewhat of a connection.
Thanks for the suggestion. I did briefly consider [name]Alice[/name] when I was thinking of other “A” names. There are other “A” names that have been on and off our list over the last few years ([name]Aurora[/name], [name]Anastasia[/name], [name]Aria[/name], [name]Amaya[/name], [name]Acacia[/name], [name]Amita[/name]) as there simply are many beautiful “A” names out there!
[name]Alice[/name] to me is probably somewhat unexpected on a little girl today since you don’t hear it very often (this is one criteria we generally have – we like to choose names that aren’t heard very often), but next to my other daughters’ names and even next to “[name]Eloise[/name]”, “[name]Alice[/name]” seems a bit plain and lackluster. I’m not necessarily saying I’m looking for a frilly name, but we also kind of like to choose names that are not only underused, but also somewhat unique (many people who are introduced to our daughters have not only never met anyone else with their names, but have often not even heard of their names at all).
Anyways, all that to say that, at least as of now, I’d still pick [name]Eloise[/name] over [name]Alice[/name]. To me [name]Alice[/name] would be a sister for [name]Lucy[/name], [name]Jane[/name], [name]Mary[/name], and [name]Beth[/name]. At least those are the types of names I’d associate with her. Though, that being said, my daughters already have names that are two very different styles, so it might be fun to give DD#3 a totally different style of name too.
I’m still really liking the combo I’ve posted here – [name]Eloise[/name] [name]Susannah[/name] [name]Blythe[/name].
Is there more than one way of pronouncing [name]Blythe[/name]? We pronounce it with a long “i” sound in the middle (I’m not sure how to spell it phonetically).

As I understand it, you can either pronounce it to rhyme with/sound similar to “life” or live (as in live on tv tonight).
I much prefer the second option as I think it’s much prettier on the ears.
