Is [name]Eloise[/name]/[name]Eloisa[/name] the next [name]Sophia[/name], [name]Isabella[/name] or [name]Olivia[/name]? We really love the idea of [name]Eloise[/name] as a middle name, but I’m worried that it’s going to be in the top 10 girls list in the next five years. What are your thoughts?
And do you care as much about the popularity of a middle versus a first name (I’m inclined to be more relaxed about it)?
I totally see what your saying about [name]Eloise[/name].
It hasn’t broken the top 400 yet but I could easily see it doing so and climbing higher.
I think the popularity of the [name]Eloise[/name] Books (http://www.eloisewebsite.com) it’s easily going to be one of those names that
non-name-efficiado’s will think is a great and adventurous alternative to [name]Kate[/name], [name]Sophie[/name], [name]Olivia[/name], [name]Amelia[/name], etc.
It’s like an easy access, no research needed names - if that makes sense.
I feel like [name]Eloise[/name] is quite popular, perhaps because my sister considered it for her baby before choosing the #1 name [name]Sophia[/name]; I now lump it in the super popular baby name group. It’s a gorgeous name, but popularity turns me right off to a name. It just depends how much that bothers you. When names become too popular, I feel like nobody appreciates them for their beautiful sound anymore or barely even notices them. You may like the similar name [name]Aloisa[/name]. BUT…popularity of a name doesn’t bother some people, and in the end I think it’s best to go with the name you love most.
I personally don’t care much for popularity, but I think for a middle name it matters less. We just don’t use our middle names [name]IRL[/name] all that often. I don’t. I wouldn’t let it bother you. [name]Eloise[/name] is very pretty.
Wow, I find that shocking actually. [name]Eloise[/name] has the “[name]Louise[/name]” sound on the end that I would think would take a bit more of an adventurous spirit to use. But I guess that certain names just seem more accessible. And an [name]Eloise[/name] can always be called [name]Ellie[/name], of course, which is super popular.
I don’t think you should worry about the popularity of the middle name. That really seems to be taking the idea of individuality too far. At worst, other little girls have it as their first name and your daughter can say, 'Oh! That’s my middle name!" and she can make friends.
I don’t think [name]Eloise[/name] is “too popular” (and most of my name choices haven’t broken the top 1000) in the US. It’s been rising in popularity for +10 years here, but still hasn’t broken the top 400 and is now starting to stabilize or even decline slightly in popularity. I’m not too sure about other countries.
For middle names, I think picking something that isn’t “filler” is important (IE. [name]Don[/name]'t just pick any middle name because it’s got the right syllables and flows with [name]EVERY[/name] first name you like), but popularity isn’t as important as with a first name.
It’s one of the names I’m bringing to the hospital for my own little one. I mulled over the popularity issue before deciding that. In the end, I think it’s a very popular name to discuss on blogs where people really CARE about names. (e.g. this one) but I don’t think my child is going to meet that many other Eloises in her life. I feel the same way about [name]Nora[/name] --lots of people [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Nora[/name], but I only know [name]ONE[/name] [name]Nora[/name].
My daughter is an [name]Isabella[/name]. Here is my take on it:
[name]Do[/name] you really love it?
Can you make a nickname from the middle name in case there are 6 [name]Isabella[/name]'s/[name]Olivia[/name]'s/[name]Sophia[/name]'s in her class?
Are you OK with a [name]LONG[/name] name that might be hard to spell for little fingers? [name]Isabella[/name] is [name]LONG[/name]!
I also really love [name]Olivia[/name] but my DH veto’d that because he knew a crazy girl named [name]Olivia[/name]. sigh [name]Eloise[/name] is my BILs niece’s name and I love that one as well. Go with what you like, who cares how popular, I say!
We decided to name my daughter [name]Isabella[/name] [name]Jeanene[/name] so, her first name is quite popular, obviously, and the middle, not so much. Especially the spelling, this is my mothers name. I came up with [name]Bella[/name] [name]Jean[/name], which would be quite unique if/when the time comes my DD wants to have a more unique name.
My name is [name]Phoebe[/name]. Beautiful and unique YES but hard to grow up with. I like more traditional names as a result of having such a unique name.
