I am pregnant with a little girl and have pretty much decided [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] will be her name. I am having trouble deciding on a middle name out of these two options:
[name_f]Jessa[/name_f] is a name I’ve loved for a while and it is also a combination of my mother and [name_f]MIL[/name_f]'s names ([name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] and [name_f]Sandra[/name_f]). By using this name I am paying homage to both grandmothers. I feel like this isn’t obvious though, and that the name will just be assumed to be a name I like that had no family connections.
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] is my Mum’s middle name. It has the family connection, but only on my side. I think it sounds pretty with [name_f]Eloise[/name_f], but do you think it sounds a bit too old-fashioned?
I would go with [name_f]Mary[/name_f]. I love using older more meaningful names for the middle spot. You could always honor [name_f]MIL[/name_f] or FIL if you had another baby.
Btw… [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] is very pretty. Good luck!
[name_f]Eloise[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f] is lovely. And I like [name_m]Rollo[/name_m]'s suggestion of [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f], or [name_f]Jessica[/name_f].
I was going to suggest [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] as well. I love [name_f]Eloise[/name_f], but truthfully I don’t see it with either [name_f]Jessa[/name_f] or [name_f]Mary[/name_f] in the middle. [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] needs something a bit fancier in the middle slot, with more than 2 syllables. A short middle seems too abrupt. I liked the suggestion of [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] as well.
[name_f]Eloise[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f] is absolutely gorgeous.
[name_f]My[/name_f] cousin’s name is [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] (she’s 11) and her middle names are [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f]. I’ve always thought she had a lovely name!
Thank you for your input, ladies! It’s great to get other opinions. I have found it difficult as we are keeping names a surprise so I don’t want to discuss it with any friends or family. Thank goodness for Nameberry!
[name_m]Just[/name_m] a question - how is [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] pronounced? Is it jess-a-MEEN or jess-a-MINE or [name_u]JESS[/name_u]-a-min (like rhymes with ‘specimen’).
Jackiet - our surname is only one syllable so it sounds right if the name goes three syllables, two syllables, one syllable
[name_u]Jem[/name_u] - your cousin’s name is gorgeous! We considered [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] for a while as they are two of our favourite names, but we wanted a family name. We have twin boys who both have family names as middle names so we wanted to continue with that.
