Eloise vs. Elizabeth

We don’t know what we are having yet, but DH and I seem to be in a battle of the names.

There is something I’ve always liked about [name]Eloise[/name] and he was all on board for the longest time. Recently he’s decided it’s too much of an “old lady” name and is shying away from it. He really liked [name]Emily[/name]. I don’t.

So, I suggested [name]Elizabeth[/name]. Now, I absolutely don’t think we could go wrong with this name…probably isn’t something quite so timeless out there. But I grew up with one of the top names of the 80’s and I just hated being in a sea of Jessicas. So much that since kindergarden I started going by my middle name…so anything in the top 10 or so turns me off. He, on the other hand, has an unusual foreign name so he likes common names no one gets wrong!

I’m curious what everyone’s honest opinions are about both names? I keep saying I’m not going to stress over any name too much, but I’ve been sick all weekend and have nothing else to do!

Other names he’s just “OK” with but that I really like are
[name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Elise[/name]
[name]Eliza[/name]

Another name he likes that I can’t get into is
[name]Layla[/name]

I have to say I prefer [name]Elizabeth[/name] over [name]Eloise[/name]. I really like both, but [name]Elizabeth[/name] is just so versatile and timeless! [name]Eloise[/name] is sweet, quirky and vintage…such a tough choice, I can see why you’re struggling. In the end, I would likely do [name]Elisabeth[/name] and use [name]Elise[/name] as a nickname because it’s very close to [name]Eloise[/name]…so I could get everything I wanted, lol.

I must say that I prefer [name]Elizabeth[/name]. [name]Eloise[/name] is nice, but there are so many nicknames you can get from [name]Elizabeth[/name]. Surely there’s one you like.

[name]Libby[/name]
[name]Elle[/name]
[name]Ellie[/name]
[name]Ella[/name]
[name]Zibby[/name]
[name]Beth[/name]
[name]Liz[/name]
[name]Lizzie[/name]
[name]Izzy[/name]
[name]Abby[/name]
[name]Elise[/name]
[name]Elsie[/name]

Yeah, well, here’s another problem with [name]Elizabeth[/name]. I’m on nn overload, lol! I love [name]Libby[/name] as a nn. Ooops. Then there is [name]Elise[/name]. [name]Don[/name]'t forget about [name]Izzy[/name]…on and on and on. It would be like the child had 15 names! Honestly not sure I could pick one (although [name]Libby[/name] is currently the front runner who knows how I would pick next week).

The beauty of it, at least the way I see it, that as she grows, she has SO many options to choose from to fit her own personality. ([name]Libbie[/name] has always been the front runner [name]Elizabeth[/name] nickname for me, too).

I prefer [name]Eloise[/name].

i have a big crush on the name elizabeth. i love the way it looks, and the classic timelessness. also love elizabeth street in manhattan. but, i sort of hate all nickname options for elizabeth (except for liz, which is sort of funky).
eloise is cute - but for some reason i’m not a big fan of the cutesy vintage retro-name trend that’s VERY popular where i’m from in canada (ie. amelia, eleanor, lillian, eloise) - it feels like too much of a trend for my taste.

I think [name]Elizabeth[/name] nn [name]Eliza[/name] would be great. Although I’m leaning more toward [name]Eloise[/name]. It’s so spunky and it feels fresh again.

I much prefer [name]Eloise[/name]. Or [name]Elise[/name]/[name]Elyse[/name]

I much prefer [name]Elizabeth[/name], [name]Eloise[/name] kinds of annoys me for some reason, but [name]Elizabeth[/name] never gets old.

I like [name]Eloise[/name] much more than [name]Elizabeth[/name], as I’ve always found it a bit boring. I do like [name]Eliza[/name] though.

I feel like both [name]Elizabeth[/name] & [name]Eloise[/name] are worn out.

[name]Eliora[/name]
[name]Elowen[/name]
[name]Elspeth[/name] nn. [name]Elsie[/name]
[name]Eluned[/name] nn. [name]Luna[/name]
[name]Elysia[/name]
[name]Emmeline[/name] nn. [name]Emmy[/name]
[name]Esme[/name]
[name]Evrose[/name]
[name]Eulalia[/name]

I realize that [name]Eloise[/name] is popular on nameberry, but not totally sure how a name can be worn out when it’s has barely cracked the top 500 names?

[name]Eloise[/name] & [name]Elizabeth[/name] are very popular where I live. I speak from my own experience and perspective. Didn’t intend to offend.

I like [name]Elizabeth[/name]- I really do. But I’m SO sick of hearing her that she just doesn’t have the same qualities (charming, vibrant, etc.) as my favorite names, even though she’d fit right in.

That being said, I think [name]Eloise[/name] is very sweet.

Not offended, it’s just the numbers say otherwise! It is very popular on here, though, but I don’t think this site is a good representation of real life. And of course [name]Elizabeth[/name] has been ridden hard for years!
