Eloise?

[name]How[/name] does one pronounce [name]Eloise[/name]? I have only recently come across this name and I am baffled…

Thanks!

[name]Al[/name]…o…ease gorgeous name.

Darn wrong thread! terribly sorry

Hehe yes i was about to say ermmm girls name

Oooh you’re a kiwi too!
Would never have [name]Eloise[/name] on my boys list! dont worry
Honest mistake, but i also kinda dont want to spam the forums so i will just keep it here.

I’ve heard [name]ELL[/name]-oyce and ell-OO-eez. Personally, I prefer the ell-OO-eez pronunciation, and to avoid confusion I spell it [name]Elouise[/name].

[name]El[/name]-ou-ise like el then louise

hehe [name]El[/name]-ou-ise [name]Al[/name]…o…ease and ell-OO-eez are all the same but different spellings…! Yup another Kiwi!
You having a girl? [name]Indy[/name] in your signature is awesome.

According to behindthename.com its: [name]EL[/name]-o-eez or el-o-EEZ. I actually agree with this and prefer the emphasis on the 1st syllable. [name]EL[/name]-o-eez.

It´s a French name and it´s actually E-lo-eez and not [name]El[/name]-… You pronounce it with a long first É. I´m trying really hard right now to find an English word to explain how it´s supposed to sound like but that particular sound of the French (also [name]German[/name] and Spanish) E just doesn´t exist in English. Sorry.
But what I ment to say all along is: I really love this name, too  It´ll maybe end up being the mn for my first daughter one day

I pronouce it EH-loh-eez, which i guess is essentially the same as [name]EL[/name]-o-eez. I love it.

I would pronounce it Eh-low-eez.

I’m french, and my sister’s name is Éloïse  We pronounce it Eh-low-EEZ.

Mine’s always been [name]EL[/name]-oo-eez. I think it’s gorgeous.

You should watch the [name]Eloise[/name] movies! They’re about a little girl named [name]Eloise[/name] who lives at the plaze hotel.

I am not pregnant  i just didnt know how to pronounce it…seems to be quite trendy on here.

I’ve never heard it pronounced any other way besides [name]El[/name]-oh-eez (Or like mnj87 said, with a longer E if you’re french, but basically the same with a French accent). It’s a very well known name here, because of the very famous [name]Eloise[/name] children’s books (I live in NYC), and I’ve never heard it mispronounced.

I would say [name]ELLE[/name]-ou-eese

I woud pronounce it [name]El[/name]-oh-eez like [name]Eloise[/name] from the Plaza Hotel books. But I am American, so this might just be the american pronunciation.

I pronounce it like Eh-[name]Louise[/name] (eh-La-WEEZ). I know someone who’s nickname was [name]Eloise[/name], and that is how she said it.
