Elowen Saoirse: What do you think?

I have fallen in love with [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] [name_f]Saoirse[/name_f] ([name_f]EL[/name_f]-oh-wen SEER-sha) as one of our top combos and would like some feedback on your thoughts?

Nickname wise we would probably use [name_f]Cece[/name_f]. This may be a stretch for some from [name_f]Saoirse[/name_f] but it works naturally for us. We’re not big nickname people anyway so it’s likely not to be used often but I like it as a “just in case”.

What kind of kid do you imagine to have this name in terms of looks/personality? Would you imagine her to be the older or younger of her siblings? Any imagery you get regarding this name I would love to hear!

[name_m]Just[/name_m] trying to see what vibe our top names put out prior to TTC this fall. Thank you in advance for your feedback!

Okay, in my mind the name [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] would be a more petite, really kind girl and [name_f]Saoirse[/name_f] a head-strong girl, who doesn’t take no for an answer when she wants something. Quick question, are you Irish? Because whenever I hear [name_f]Saoirse[/name_f], I think Irish. Because as you probably know [name_f]Saoirse[/name_f] means freedom in Irish. So one of the first things that comes to mind for me, would be the Cogadh na [name_f]Saoirse[/name_f]. Those were some really random thoughts put down there, hope you could take something from it lol.

A huge part of my bloodline/ancestry is Irish  some on my dad’s side and a huge portion on my mom’s side. I absolutely love Irish names too!
Thank you so much for your feedback

Any thoughts or imagery come to mind?

I love it. I think of rainy forest and [name_f]England[/name_f] and [name_m]Wales[/name_m], of forests next to gloomy seas. I love [name_f]Saoirse[/name_f] [name_f]Elowen[/name_f], also.

We just named our little girl [name_f]Elowen[/name_f]. My friend told me it sounds like a little fairy name. To me it sounds very whimsical. I imagine a kind nature loving girl.

I will say I’ve gotten some surprising reactions to the name. People either love it or are totally confused by it. I’ve gotten a few raised eyebrows and mispronounciations. It’s just a very unique name out side of these forums.

Thank you guys for the feedback! I love [name_f]Saoirse[/name_f] as a first name as well but DH doesn’t like it as a first and living where we do it would be butchered by everyone (family included).

I love the whimsical feel of [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] too! I figure there might be some crazy looks, I get them with my name too. It feels very Tolkien-esque to me which was a huge plus for this name [name_f]IMO[/name_f].

Thank you for the feedback! Definitely the kind of imagery I love

I am in love with [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] [name_f]Saoirse[/name_f].

It’s so mystical and mossy green. Go for it!

I absolutely adore [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] [name_f]Saoirse[/name_f]!

As to imagery, I hear in the name (just as it comes to mind) a strong, confident, yet girly and sweet young woman, independent and kind.

I think the name will work well on both a child and a teen/adult. It really is a lovely combo! I have loved both of those names separately for a while (not quite enough to put them on my short list yet), but putting them together is a perfect idea I hadn’t thought of.

This is the very reason why I love the name [name_f]Elowen[/name_f]! I can’t quite bring myself to allow guilty pleasures [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Eowyn[/name_f] places on my shortlist (though I do love them and their characters). And, lol, Galadriel and Tauriel aren’t even recognized as given names outside of the books/movies. But [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] might be a roundabout way of honoring my love of Tolkien!
I have also considered some of the names of [name_u]Sam[/name_u] Gamgee’s daughters - [name_f]Elanor[/name_f], [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], [name_f]Primrose[/name_f], etc. as honor names for Tolkien. I don’t know and I’m not there yet:)

I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the name [name_f]Elowen[/name_f]. I hadn’t heard of it, until I saw it on a forum a couple of months ago, and I’ve been in love ever since. We are expecting a girl this [name_f]May[/name_f], and we are thinking of either [name_f]Juliette[/name_f] or [name_f]Elowen[/name_f].

To me, [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] is a strong, little lady. She has blond curls, and wears a floral/dandelion crown. She runs through meadows barefoot, and swings from willow branches. [name_u]Love[/name_u] it!

I also think it sounds lovely the other way around, [name_f]Saoirse[/name_f] [name_f]Elowen[/name_f]

Eek, thank you so much for the feedback! I’ve loved the names separately for a while but DH rejected [name_f]Saoirse[/name_f] as a first due to spelling (our familus would butcher it) and I never found a middle for [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] even though I’m dead set on using it. I woke up from a nap the other day and they just popped into my head as a combo and I’m smitten!

I also love [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Eowyn[/name_f] and some more obscure Tolkien names (the more obscure the better) but they’re either too iconic or just not good as firsts in the real world.

I’ve thought of [name_u]Sam[/name_u]'s daughters too! Another that was suggested and I find beautiful is Lorien to honor Tolkien. It would be mistake for [name_u]Loren[/name_u] where I live due to muddied accents but I still find it beautiful.

I discovered [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] on the forums too! I was so intrigued and am so glad I discovered NB prior to getting pregnant (not that I’m pregnant yet).

If those are your top picks you’ll pick a winner either way. I love [name_f]Juliette[/name_f] as well! If I didn’t have others I loved a bit more it would be on our short list.

Me too! [name_f]Saoirse[/name_f] would be butchered where I live (by family and friends sadly) and DH vetoed it as a first. I’ll take it as a middle if that means I get it though!

I think of an Irish landscape. Very green and rolling hills. I can’t get a clear image of a real person with this name because both names are not overly familiar to me, so the combination sounds kind of fantastical to me. I could imagine a warrior or a princess with this name

[name_f]Elowen[/name_f] with your pronunciation reminds me of [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] or [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], so I can picture a young, demure girl. Maybe up to 12 years old, with any shade of brown hair and wearing a white dress.
