Elowyn popularity?

[name_u]Love[/name_u] the name [name_f]Elowyn[/name_f].

[name_f]Girl[/name_f] names are much harder for me and husband to agree on them boy names.

Names I liked that he did not was [name_f]Eira[/name_f], [name_u]Willow[/name_u], and [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] (I agree it’s too popular)

We love [name_f]Elowyn[/name_f], I’m afraid it is becoming too popular and don’t want an extra popular name so when our kid is in class there is 2 other Elowyns in class

For a boy name we love [name_u]Lyle[/name_u]

We loved [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] but way too popular.

Thoughts? Other name suggestions.

I love E names, O names, and W names.

We’ve gone through tons of names and can’t agree.

Popularity depends on country, of course, but at least in the US this name was only #877 last year. That doesn’t mean its popularity won’t rise (it is on trend with the -wyn ending and E beginning) but it’s likely not in danger of being too popular soon (likely not even in the top 500 in the next couple years) so I think you’d be safe with that one and it’s lovely!

Hard to gauge or predict but Elowen/Elowyn doesn’t seem like it’ll ever be popular (highly unlikely that two other Elowyns in a school let alone in a class unless you live in an area where it’s trending in particular). It’s more likely to be like other names in the class - it has the trendy letters of this century, certainly the last 15 years (these are L, V plus the three you’ve listed!). That and it’s a name of its time as a magical, creative/artsy and outdoorsy, nature name. :sparkles:

I think you’ll be safe with it but here are some others you might like:

[name_f]Elowyn[/name_f] is a lovely name!

In terms of popularity, it ranked in 876 in the US in 2022 and that was the first time it had come on to the charts (so it did jump up last year)

Some things I’d consider:

  • [name_f]El[/name_f]- names are popular in general. She’d likely be the only [name_f]Elowyn[/name_f], but there may well be an [name_f]Ella[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Eliana[/name_f], [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Elise[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] etc, along with the similar looking [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] or Emerysn, in the class. That isn’t to put you off, but worth thinking about how it might make it feel more popular than it is
  • [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] is in the UK charts and has been for the past 6 years. It’s popularity has stayed in the latter end of the top 1000 for now, which could be a sign that while it may be used, it hasn’t suddenly leapt into the top 100

As I say, I do love Elowen/Elowyn, and since you both love it, I think you should keep it on the list!!

Some other ideas:

[name_f]Branwen[/name_f]
[name_f]Elestren[/name_f]
[name_u]Endellion[/name_u]
[name_f]Ondine[/name_f]
[name_f]Willodean[/name_f]
[name_f]Lumi[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwyneira[/name_f]
[name_f]Winola[/name_f]
[name_u]Indigo[/name_u]
[name_f]Sidonie[/name_f]
[name_f]Avalon[/name_f]
[name_u]Romilly[/name_u]
[name_f]Oona[/name_f]
[name_f]Eula[/name_f]

Thank you all! Sleeping on it I do really like the name and I love [name_u]Winslow[/name_u].

Thinking of pocketing that one and using it in the future or as a middle name!
