Elsie... What's the first thing that comes to mind?

We are loving the name [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] but worried it’s too close to [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] and people will just think of Frozen the movie. No? What do you think of [name_f]Elsie[/name_f]?

We also like [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], [name_f]Elle[/name_f], And [name_f]Esme[/name_f] but [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] seems a little less popular.

Brothers are [name_u]Mason[/name_u] and [name_m]Myles[/name_m].

[name_f]Elsie[/name_f] is super cute, I just would assume it was short for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].

[name_f]Elsie[/name_f] definitely has a vintage charm to it, it’s also short and sweet. Honestly it reminds me of my grandmother because that was her name. That is not a bad thing, I would use it myself but it’s just nms.

Doesn’t remind me of [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] at all  (and I have two daughters under 7 who are obsessed with Frozen). [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] name, feels quite vintage but somehow modern.

[name_f]Elsie[/name_f] is adorable, but I will be honest in saying that I thought it was [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] at first glance and thought “oh not another one… enough already”. But that said, I do think [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] is very cute.

I picture a sweet little country girl when I hear [name_f]Elsie[/name_f].

I love old lady names so maybe this is perfect!

I love [name_f]Elsie[/name_f]. My husband actually suggested it and he rarely suggests or likes many names  I am from the southern US so it does remind me slightly of [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] the cow  Maybe that’s not a common association though. I haven’t heard any ads with [name_f]Elise[/name_f] the cow in a while but I did see her picture on the side of a semi the other day.

[name_f]Elsie[/name_f] brings to mind the [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] [name_m]Dinsmore[/name_m] books, a book series written in the 1800s about a very pious southern girl that has racist undertones and abusive family dynamics.

I think of [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] [name_m]Dinsmore[/name_m] series, but I certainly do not think of racism and abuse. It just registers in the “children’s book with heroine’s name as title” category along with [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] [name_u]Drew[/name_u], [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] the Spy, [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] Plain & Tall, even [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]'s [name_m]Web[/name_m]. I definitely don’t think you need to avoid it for reason of the books. I personally enjoy seeing [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], but I am continually impressed at how the general public automatically tries to change a similar name to one they are more familiar with. For example, I have an [name_f]Evie[/name_f] and people are always asking if we just said [name_f]Ava[/name_f]. (eyeroll Really??) So I do think that the similarity of [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] to [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] is likely to be something that people notice “in real life.” It’s hard to predict just [name_m]HOW[/name_m] big a problem it will be, so I think it depends a lot on how much it bothers you, and how willing you are to gamble that [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] will be mistaken for [name_f]Elsa[/name_f].

[name_f]Elsie[/name_f] doesn’t make me think [name_f]Elsa[/name_f], maybe because [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] is vintage (seeing a surge of popularity where I live) and [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] feels more modern and Disney because of Frozen. I love [name_f]Elsie[/name_f]; very sweet but no nonsense too.

[name_f]Elsie[/name_f] reminds of a little country girl on the prairie bringing home the cows from the pasture. This is a positive association for me, because I like outdoorsy names that remind me of fresh air. [name_f]Elsie[/name_f]'s best quality is sweetness.

Second, [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] reminds me of [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], which reminds me of [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] Kemper, which is not a good association, imo. [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] Kemper is best known as the completely ridiculous character [name_f]Kimmie[/name_f] Schmidt in the (very funny sitcom) The Unbreakable [name_f]Kimmie[/name_f] Schmidt, as well as another ridiculous character, [name_f]Erin[/name_f], from The Office. This is a dealbreaker for me, because [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] contains the same sounds as the word “silly”, which also happens to be the core quality of all [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] Kemper characters!

I don’t think of Frozen at all, I only think [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] = sweet and silly.

I love [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], but prefer if a a nickname. I do not mistake it for [name_f]Elsa[/name_f], but it very much follows the popularity of [name_f]Elle[/name_f], [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], [name_f]Ella[/name_f], etc.

It reminds me of the cow, but not at all of Frozen. I don’t personally like the name, but it seems like I’m the only one who made the association I did, so I think it’ll work.

I love the name [name_f]Elsie[/name_f]. We are due in [name_u]November[/name_u] and this is our girl name. We would call her [name_f]Elle[/name_f] as a nickname It was my great grandma’s name so I think of a spunky old [name_m]German[/name_m] lady first off but I have heard the association with [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] the [name_m]Borden[/name_m] cow. It doesn’t bother me though. When I told our 8 year old daughter the name she responded, “it’s sort of like [name_f]Elsa[/name_f]!” so there may be the Frozen association for some I guess

[name_f]Elsie[/name_f] is so cute! It’s one of my top names. [name_u]Love[/name_u] it.

A lesser known story by the Grimm brothers

[name_f]Elsie[/name_f] the Cow is my first thought. Wouldn’t make me think of Frozen

I love [name_f]Elsie[/name_f]! I have a really close friend name [name_u]Kelsey[/name_u], so unfortunately [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] and [name_u]Kelsey[/name_u] are too similar.

I grew up watching The [name_f]Princess[/name_f] Diaries over and over again. I remember one of the characters in the second movie was [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], so that’s what pops into my head when I think of [name_f]Elsie[/name_f].

I have an [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] in my family–it is short for [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]. [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] doesn’t remind me of [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] at all and has a totally different feel, which is vintage but fresh.
