I’ve long loved [name]Elspeth[/name]. It was my Great Aunt’s name, she went by [name]Elsie[/name].
The other day, this combo jumped together and greatly appeals to me. If I had an [name]Elspeth[/name], she’d be [name]Bess[/name], [name]Elsa[/name] or [name]Lily[/name] before [name]Elsie[/name], [name]Ellie[/name] or any of the other [name]El[/name]- names out there.
I’m certain I like the pairing, but don’t know how well it would work in RL. I mean, how hard is it for you all to say it? (It’s not hard for me)
I worry, too, that it feels almost dowdy next to [name]Josie[/name] in full. So, give it to me, what do you think?
[name]Elspeth[/name] is part of my Angels name. I adore it and think it flows beautifully with [name]Scarlett[/name] [name]Jane[/name].
As for pronunciation issues, I don’t think I would worry. The first time I heard the name was on the daughter of one of my science teachers in high school. That was 6 or 7 years ago now, and she was about 2 at the time. No one ever had any trouble with her name. I think once she tells people her name once or twice, it will catch on, it’s not that difficult.
@flick, your [name]Angel[/name] has a beautiful name to go with her wings!
It’s nice to see the combo be appreciated, honest, but I was wondering more about the switch between elspeTH and [name]SCarlett[/name]. Neither of us have trouble, and I don’t think her whole name will be said anymore than [name]Josie[/name]'s but I still worry about silly things like that.
If noone else is having a problem saying the whole combo, I’ll be ecstatic! [name]Elspeth[/name]'s currently our #4.
I wasn’t sure at first about [name]Elspeth[/name], but I love the nicknames and the family nod and now I think I really like it! I think [name]Ellie[/name]/[name]Elsie[/name]/[name]Elsa[/name] and [name]Josie[/name] are all really cute combos. I don’t have a problem pronouncing it myself, but I wonder if a little one would? I don’t think that’s enough reason not to use it. I really like it!
Thanks @anniebee, that’s kind of what I was worried about! Actually, a 2 year old saying Elspef would warm my heart! “th” is a hard sound for kids to say, until they’re about 5 or 6, but I still think a lisping, little kid is adorable! Thanks!
I think it’s lovely! If I had one note, it would be that [name]Jane[/name] seems just tagged on there. [name]Jane[/name] is lovely and simple, but it can often be easily overpowered by stronger names (such as the mightier [name]Elspeth[/name] and [name]Scarlett[/name]). You can still put something feminine and simple, just not as markedly “plain.” Why not:
@nicole_1024: [name]Jane[/name] does seem tacked on, but it was my Mom’s middle name. And [name]Elspeth[/name] [name]Scarlett[/name] [name]Jane[/name] is easier to say than [name]Elspeth[/name] [name]Scarlett[/name] [name]Frances[/name]. [name]Frances[/name] was my Mom’s first name, which is about the only other name that would be in that spot! Thanks for all the combos, but [name]Jane[/name] stays.
Alright, [name]Elspeth[/name] [name]Scarlett[/name] [name]Jane[/name] it is! I like that [name]Jane[/name] has a personal connection to you. It’s lovely.
