Elspeth vs. Elsbeth

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] berries!

I would love to know: which name do you
prefer, what are your reasonings, and what imagery to you get from [name_f]Elsbeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f]!

Thank you in advance! :sunflower:

I totally didn’t just vote in the pole :see_no_evil:

I think I see Elsbeth as more classic and simple. It has two super easy nicknames, El and Beth, whereas Elspeth has one of those. Elspeth feels more light and happy and my head. (don’t ask why, it just does.) Your uc feels very happy, bright, and has summer vibes and I think Elspeth fits better! Oh, and I prefer Elsbeth, but I like both!

I like [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] because it flows better and is easier to transition from the s to p than from s to b (because they’re both voiceless sounds).

[name_f]Elsbeth[/name_f] for me! For a few reasons, although mainly because I find the “lsp” sound of [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] a little hard to say :sweat_smile: Still, I think [name_f]Elsbeth[/name_f] feels a bit more familiar and sweet, whereas [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] feels a little more whimsical and storybook-y, and the aesthetic of the former is more my vibe!

I prefer [name_f]Elsbeth[/name_f]! Mostly just because I think it looks nicer to be honest! [name_f]Love[/name_f] both though!

I like [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] best - I think it’s the up-down pattern of the letters, the extra flair that -p- adds, the unexpectedness of the ‘peth’ ending, and because [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] feels like more of its own name - and while I know it’s a diminutive of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] just holds its own more.

[name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] gives me slightly cosy vibes, but like, rural cottage, wind and rain outside, but the fire on, windswept hair, knitted scarves and mismatched patterns kinda thing.
But at the same time, there’s something elegant and slightly dainty about it - could lean either way :person_shrugging:

I pronounce [name_f]Elsbeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] both like [name_f]Elsbeth[/name_f] so I naturally would go with [name_f]Elsbeth[/name_f]

Preferred [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] until recently because it seems more its own name and for its rugged, windswept & epic - but also domestic and slightly nerdy - feel. I now like them both but see [name_f]Elsbeth[/name_f] as more storybook cutesy (but strong) like [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] & [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f]. I think it also depends on whether you want [name_f]Beth[/name_f] as a clear nn option while in addition to [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], [name_f]Elle[/name_f] etc for both, you could you use Pithy, [name_f]Pippy[/name_f] or some P related for [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f].

I really like both so I couldn’t vote on the quick poll

[name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] feels very sprightly like a woodland fairy. I think of moss and fantastical storybooks. :fairy:t3::wood::wind_face:

[name_f]Elsbeth[/name_f] is more fun and clunky. Blueberry muffins and stuffed animals with buttons for eyes. :teddy_bear::playground_slide::socks:

[name_f]Madison[/name_f], I think your descriptions just made this harder :rofl: those are both such perfect vibes.

For some reason I really struggle to say either out loud lol. But vibe-wise:

[name_f]Elsbeth[/name_f]: :coffee::tulip::fallen_leaf::open_book:

[name_f]Elspeth[/name_f]: :strawberry::fairy:t3::basket::herb:

[name_f]Elsbeth[/name_f] feels more literary/bookish and [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] has more of a fantasy vibe

Omg I didn’t even read your response before I posted! It’s the same for me!

To me [name_f]Elsbeth[/name_f] seems like a contraction of [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] feels like a distinct name. They are both great and I don’t really have a strong preference either way.

I prefer [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f], because I was familiar with it as a name before I ever encountered [name_f]Elsbeth[/name_f]. [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] just looks “right” to me, while [name_f]Elsbeth[/name_f] makes me want to add an “i” and “a” to turn it into [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f].

I agree with other pps in that [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] feels like a name in its own right but [name_f]Elsbeth[/name_f] feels like [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] missing some letters. Defs prefer [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f], it’s soft, pretty, vintage, cottagecore and charming :blush:

I prefer [name_f]Elsbeth[/name_f] because it has a B just like [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f].
The imagery for both is cottagecore.

[name_m]Just[/name_m] wanted to add, while I prefer [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] to [name_f]Elsbeth[/name_f], I also prefer Ilsbeth to [name_f]Elsbeth[/name_f] :blush:

So my youngest has the middle name [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] after an [name_f]Elsbeth[/name_f]. I adore both, the [name_f]Elsbeth[/name_f] in question really wanted her name to be [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] instead so thats what I used. I think both are fairytale worthy, tbh.
