Elspeth vs Elsbeth

Hello berries

I love this name! I love that it’s linked to Elizabeth which is a family name and primarily used in Scotland which links to my heritage. I love the nickname Elsie and that she feels whimsy with this pebbled beach grey sky imagery attached. Elspeth is the original Scottish variant and Elsbeth feels like a derivative of Elspeth but I’m not sure if Elsbeth looks visually prettier maybe potentially easier to pronounce. Just wanted your thoughts. What’s your favourite?

Thank you :light_blue_heart:

[name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] nn [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] is so charming! I find [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] easier to pronounce actually, and it sounds softer to me, so she got my vote. For some reason the “s” comes out different for me with both names [name_f][/name_f]- [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] sounds more like how it’s spelled, [name_f]Elsbeth[/name_f] gives me more of a “z” sound [name_f][/name_f]- not sure if that’s just me though.

Thank you! @Greyblue

Both are beautiful, but I slightly prefer the way that [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] looks! I think it makes it that little bit more distinctive from [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and her other variants

I prefer [name_f]Elsbeth[/name_f], it comes more naturally to me and is easier to pronounce. [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] sounds a little harsh, but I think that’s mostly because of my accent.

[name_f]My[/name_f] vote goes to [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f]. As others have said I pronounce the s as an “s” in [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] and as a “z” in [name_f]Elsbeth[/name_f]. For that reason I prefer the sound of [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f], along with it being the more traditional Scottish version of the name.

Thank you @sarahjane1[name_f][/name_f] I like that [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] is the original Scottish form as well

I prefer [name_f]Elsbeth[/name_f], as I find the -beth ending more aesthetically pleasing than the -peth ending.

I prefer [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] by a mile!

IIRC [name_f]Elsbeth[/name_f] is a [name_m]German[/name_m] contraction of [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f], so it feels more like a shorter version and [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] feels more like its own name. The ‘peth’ ending is softer to me and more interesting than the ‘beth’ ending, and both are roughly equally easy to pronounce.
