Guys, I love, loooove [name]Elspeth[/name]. Especially [name]Elspeth[/name] [name]Lucinda[/name] and [name]Elspeth[/name] [name]Jemima[/name]. It’s my favourite name to honour my grandma [name]Elizabeth[/name] (which I am not fond of.) She went by [name]Betty[/name]. But, our last name ends with a “th.” I think they sound a little lispy together, but not horrible. I would love to hear some feedback!
I love [name]Elspeth[/name] too, but it took a while to grow on me. At first I thought it sounded a bit clunky or choppy or something. There is something not-namey about it. Still, it has grown on me so much that it made my long list. My biggest reason for liking it is to get to the nickname [name]Eppie[/name], which you may like.
[name]Elspeth[/name]? Are you for real? Sorry, never heard of it before, and I raise my eyebrows very, very high for it. Doubly high if your last name ends with -th. It just doesn’t seem “real”, and it doesn’t sound attractive to me, it sounds like you’re trying to spit something out of your mouth
I like [name]Elspeth[/name]. I know it’s really old-fashioned, but I think it’s pretty. A girl named [name]Elspeth[/name] would have several modern nickname options if she thought [name]Elspeth[/name] sounded outdated.
I love [name]Elspeth[/name]. I think it’s funky, clunky, and gorgeous. I would be concerned if you have “th” in your surname, too, though. I’m considering it for a middle.
I was looking at Scottish names a short while back.
Elspeth was a name that I originally saw (scottish version of Elizabeth), crinkled my nose at.
Scrolled back up, looked again at the name. Said the name.
Went back to it a week later after thinking about it more… and really like it.
It IS clunky and unusual. It probably will be mis-heard frequently, especially if you’re in the USA. At the very best people will think Elizabeth, then Elsbeth. Maybe Illspith…
But there really is something about Elspeth that is unexpectedly enchanting in my opinion.
Sadly, though, I don’t know how well it would go with a last name that starts with Th-. It may end up sounding like “Elspeh Th-”
EDIT-- Woops! I mis-read. I ENDING in -th isn’t as bad, though i do agree there might be a lispy sound in it, depending on the name. hmmm.
I’d keep it on my shortlist, but have reservations unless you absolutely loved it more than the rest.
I [name]ADORE[/name] [name]Elspeth[/name], it’s one of my all time favorites, been on my list for probably a decade, I think it’s stunning!
…it’s the Scottish form of [name]Elizabeth[/name].
I’m fond of [name]Elspeth[/name]. It has a very dainty, vintage sound to me, and I also love a lot of ends-in-th names. But your last name isn’t exactly what I would choose for it.
I don’t like [name]Elise[/name] or [name]Eliza[/name] quite as much… though [name]Eliza[/name] comes close… but they might go better with your last name.
I am oddly into [name]Lilibet[/name], but it feels nickname-ish and I probably wouldn’t use it by itself.
I know an [name]Elspeth[/name] in her late 20s. I like the name, but with a -th ending last name, it will sound lispy. I’d look for another variation on [name]Elizabeth[/name]–the names mentioned by stripedsocks are good options.
I like it, but it doesn’t work with a name ending in -th. [name]Way[/name] too lispy.
[name]How[/name] about [name]Elsa[/name]? [name]Elsa[/name] -th would be nice.
I really like [name]Elspeth[/name].
I like [name]Elspeth[/name]! I’m not exactly a fan of [name]Elizabeth[/name], but I love its variations. I think [name]Elspeth[/name] [name]Lucinda[/name] is perfect.
[name]Just[/name] because you haven’t heard of it doesn’t make it made up, and a little bit of a rude way to begin your post. It’s not like the poster has plucked a name from nowhere and smushed a few sounds together to come up with some garbage you see these days.
[name]Elspeth[/name] is beautiful and uncommon name, but my only fear would be the nickname [name]Ellie[/name]. I love the idea of [name]Elspeth[/name] with the nickname [name]Elsie[/name]. My favourite combo is [name]Elspeth[/name] [name]Matilda[/name] [name]Rose[/name], but of yours I love [name]Elspeth[/name] [name]Jemima[/name]. However, I do worry about how it would sound with your last name but only you can make that decision without us actually knowing what your last name is.
I think [name]Elspeth[/name] [name]Lucinda[/name] is the best of your choices, but I really don’t like the name [name]Elspeth[/name]. I realize it’s a legitimate name, but to me it sounds like the way a toddler would pronounce [name]Elizabeth[/name] and not an actual grown-up name. With your last name ending in “th,” it makes this even more true, in my opinion. I’d personally go with [name]Eliza[/name] or [name]Elise[/name]/[name]Elisa[/name] if you don’t like [name]Elizabeth[/name].
[name]Elspeth[/name] is gorgeous, vintage, classy, and not to “out there.” I love all the middle names posted by [name]Lori[/name] [name]Johnson[/name] posted above. It’s an exceptional name.
[name]Elspeth[/name] is popular name in the UK and Australia. It is definitely not made up.
It’s pretty but I prefer Elsabet in place of [name]Elizabeth[/name].
When I first heard the name, I hated it! Then it really grew on me, and now its one of my favorite names. If it doesn’t sound horrible then I say [name]Elspeth[/name] [name]Lucinda[/name] for sure. I must note that [name]Elspeth[/name] [name]Smith[/name] sounds funny, but if the last name is longer like (made up last name) Vanderlith. [name]Elspeth[/name] Vanderlith doesn’t sound too bad (:
I love [name]Elspeth[/name] and am definitely considering it if I have a girl. I also like [name]Elizabeth[/name], but I especially love that it’s the Scottish version of [name]Elizabeth[/name] because I’m of Scottish heritage. However, if my last name ended in th, then I’m sorry to say, I’d reconsider.
