Elwin for a boy?

I recently asked about [name_m]Oswin[/name_m] and [name_m]Selwyn[/name_m]. I’m not intentionally looking for -wyn/win ending names, but I guess I seem to be drawn to them.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]My[/name_f] husband vetoed [name_m]Edwin[/name_m] when we were naming our second boy because neither of us love [name_m]Ed[/name_m]- names. [name_m]Elwin[/name_m] was on my list once upon a time, but my husband liked [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] for a girl and I see Elowen/Elowyn increasingly often on girls lists, so I’m not sure if [name_m]Elwin[/name_m] would feel ambiguous or gender neutral?

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Elwin[/name_m] was suggested to me on my last post and now it’s back on my mind.

[name_f][/name_f]

It feels like it has a similar warmth as [name_m]Edwin[/name_m] without the [name_m]Ed[/name_m]- portion we dont care for.

[name_f][/name_f]

I also worry that E- names in general became super trendy and have avoided a lot of them because some seem to blur together. For example, we used to like [name_m]Everest[/name_m] years ago, but then we knew people who used [name_m]Everett[/name_m], [name_m]Emmett[/name_m], [name_f]Emersyn[/name_f], [name_m]Emerson[/name_m], [name_f]Everly[/name_f], [name_f]Emberlyn[/name_f], [name_f]Eloise[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], and I just sort of wrote off all E names because they started to lose their charm. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think an [name_m]Elwin[/name_m] would get lost in a crowd of E-names or does it feel distinct enough?

[name_f][/name_f]

I’m wondering what general impressions or thoughts are on [name_m]Elwin[/name_m]. Lastly, if you’ve read this far [name_f][/name_f], how do you feel about [name_m]Elwin[/name_m] compared to [name_m]Selwyn[/name_m]?

[name_f][/name_f]

apologies for the rambling and the spam recently. I’m in my two week wait and can’t keep myself from playing with baby names lists, haha.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Elwin[/name_m] [name_m]Wilhelm[/name_m], [name_m]Elwin[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], [name_m]Elwin[/name_m] [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m], and [name_m]Elwin[/name_m] [name_m]Augustine[/name_m] are a few combos I have jotted down.

[name_m]Elwin[/name_m] is sweet and clunky. I don’t think it would get lost in the sea of E names. I think it’s kind of a nice balance between standing out and fitting in.

[name_f][/name_f]

And personally I do prefer it over [name_m]Selwyn[/name_m] as it feels less whispy and lispy for me, it feels a little more solid.

I find [name_m]Elwin[/name_m] quite distinct against the other E names because of the ‘win’ ending. It feels masculine rather than gender neutral to me.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Elwin[/name_m] is my preference over [name_m]Selwin[/name_m] because it sounds warmer. S names are a bit wintry for me. The ‘sel’ part of the name just isn’t my favourite in a name, whereas [name_m]Elwin[/name_m] comes across as friendly, gentle and handsome.

[name_m]Elwin[/name_m] is very sweet and unexpected yet grounded; and for what it’s worth, I would expect an [name_m]Elwin[/name_m] to be a boy. It feels more gentle than outright feminine, if that makes sense?

Sadly, as much as I love [name_m]Elwin[/name_m], [name_m]Selwyn[/name_m] doesn’t really do it for me! All I hear is “sell [name_m]Wyn[/name_m]” (but I don’t think it would be a problem for most people? I’m just weird).

[name_m]Elwin[/name_m] could certainly work. I like it.

[name_f][/name_f]

I recently met a man named [name_m]Elvin[/name_m] and saw a young boy tv character named [name_m]Alwyn[/name_m] (Murdoch Mysteries), so it would fit in well.

[name_m]Elwin[/name_m] stands out enough for me [name_f][/name_f]- charming, a little clunky but gentle too, nerdy but easy to imagine it feeling energetic too. Plus nicknames [name_f]Els[/name_f] and [name_m]Win[/name_m] are charming.

[name_f][/name_f]

I do think it might sometime get confused with [name_m]Edwin[/name_m] or [name_f]Elowyn[/name_f], in the same way [name_f]Elise[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Esme[/name_f] might get blurred together. Still the strong EL sound and succinctness of the syllables helps distiguish it.

[name_f][/name_f]

I do slightly prefer the gravity of [name_m]Selwyn[/name_m] but [name_m]Elwin[/name_m] is nice too

Oh, he has a lovely meaning! [name_f][/name_f] I didn’t think of [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] but I’m having a hard time separating them now that you mentioned it… [name_f][/name_f] well, [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] and [name_m]Edwin[/name_m]. [name_f][/name_f] It is nice in theory but for me it does feel like it’d get lost in the other E’s. [name_f][/name_f] I like [name_m]Selwyn[/name_m] a lot, though, compared to [name_m]Elwin[/name_m]! [name_f][/name_f] Feels unexpected and Welsh, but easy to say and distinctive.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Elwin[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] especially from your combos I find lovely, though I’m such a sucker for [name_m]Augustine[/name_m]!

[name_f][/name_f]

Good luck!
