Elyes

I would like some thoughts on a name I have fallen in love with. Elyes. Pronounced [name_f]ELL[/name_f]-ee-iss, like [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] with an s where the t is. I think it’s strong and masculine yet sweet and soft, flows so beautifully and is unique without sounding too out there. My only concern would be people’s potential inability to spell and pronounce it, but I think the name itself would overcome that. Thanks in advance for your responses!

When I saw your post, I had no clue how to pronounce this and I’m usually pretty good at figuring it out. It looks like a misspelled [name_u]Elias[/name_u]. I liked the sound of it once I read it phonetically, but I think spelling and reading it would be challenging to most. That said, there aren’t that many times when people would be reading or writing it for the first time. Once you explain it once, they’ll get it because it isn’t complicated. It just depends how much that would bother you or not

Oh, I very much agree with what was said above! It’s a gorgeous sounding name, but I don’t think I could’ve gotten there by looking at the spelling. I’m wondering if there might be some more intuitive way to spell it. There’s also [name_u]Ellis[/name_u], which is nice, but doesn’t have quite the same feel.

Thanks for it the feedback! I actually got the name from actor Elyes [name_m]Gabel[/name_m] (swoon!). It’s said to be a form of [name_u]Elias[/name_u]. I really love it but I’m not sure if I could use it because of the potential inability for people to spell/pronounce… I think I love it enough to get past it tho.
