Hey Everybody.
This one isn’t for me. [name]Do[/name] you guys think the name [name]Emerson[/name] fits a girl or boy better? Reasons.
Thanks
Definitely a boy. Despite the “[name]Em[/name]” beginning which has been popular for girls lately, [name]Emerson[/name] literally means “son of [name]Emery[/name]” and had always been used for boys until [name]Teri[/name] Hatcher named her daughter that. I wouldn’t want to give my daughter a name that means “son of”!
I do love [name]Emerson[/name] for a boy & have it on my list for my future son but despite that, I do have a soft spot for it on a girl although I never would actually go for it. I think for a boy, it bothers me that the “[name]Em[/name]” nickname exists because it’s too feminine for a boy. I honestly don’t think the whole “son of” thing bothers me. To me, that’s silly. But overall, I consider [name]Emerson[/name] pretty gender neutral and I love it.
[name]Emerson[/name] is a boys name to me. It has son on the end of it…it means son of…
I dislike all these -son names on girls as they are clearly masculine names.
Boy. It’s has “son” on the end, and it also reminds me of [name]Ralph[/name] [name]Waldo[/name] [name]Emerson[/name]. I find it interesting that people use the exact same literary names for their children (I guess [name]Shakespeare[/name], [name]Chaucer[/name], and Browning weren’t good enough? No Bradstreet? No Wordsworth or [name]Coleridge[/name]?), though my guess is that most parents of Emersons haven’t read anything by him.
Boy. I love [name]Emerson[/name] for a boy! First of all, like it’s been said several times–it ends in “son”. To me, [name]Emerson[/name] has a cultured, charming, handsome appeal for a boy, current without being trendy and I doubt it’ll be dated. [name]Emerson[/name] on a girl, however, is trendy, tomboyish, extremely trendy, and will date lightning-fast. Yeah, [name]Emma[/name]/[name]Emmy[/name] is cute, but you could get either of those from [name]Emmeline[/name], [name]Emilia[/name], [name]Emily[/name], or even just [name]Emma[/name].
Oh, and I apologize if that sounds like a cut on your friend; it’s not intended to be. (For all I know, RWE could be her favorite author.) I’m just dismayed by general naming trends, why some authors’ surnames are popular names and others are not.
Boy. It’s [name]Emer[/name][name]SON[/name]. Also it is very masculine sounding, not feminine at all.
It’s all girl to me, because of the [name]Emmy[/name], [name]Emma[/name], [name]Em[/name] nicknames that come out of it. To me, most of the unisex names ending in -son are girly, like [name]Madison[/name], but I’m not a name nerd and I don’t care about meanings at all.
I like it for a boy. It seems trendy on a girl but handsome and stong on a boy.
Boy name, for sure.
Unisex… boy or girl. A case can be made for either. That’s the whole point of a unisex name.
I actually like it for both but prefer boy.
