Tough choice because I love both. [name]Emmeline[/name] had the edge for me because [name]Amelia[/name] has become so popular recently. [name]Emilia[/name] was a consideration for us, but I finally had to let it go. I would love to use [name]Emmeline[/name], but I have a wonderful cousin by that name.

Such a difficult question! I like both a lot but ultimately chose [name]Emmeline[/name] because it just slips off the tongue oh-so-easily.

I’d never read the history of [name]Emilia[/name] before. I love it! I really like [name]Amelia[/name], but it’s downfall for me was the nickname [name]Amy[/name] which I dislike.
My first thought with [name]Emilia[/name] was that it was just a variation of [name]Amelia[/name]–like [name]Alivia[/name] coming from [name]Olivia[/name]. But I actually really love that it has it’s own history, though I imagine other people will think it’s a derivation also.

I’m not a big fan of [name]Emmeline[/name], it’s okay just not my cup of tea. It feels too long. I’d probably like it if the “correct” spelling was [name]Emelyn[/name], lol

I really love both, but I would lean toward [name]Emmeline[/name]. I think a girl named [name]Emilia[/name] would always be correcting people, saying “No, not [name]Amelia[/name].” I think that could get burdensome. I mean, don’t get me wrong - I absolutely adore the [name]Emilia[/name] spelling. I just wonder if it would be difficult or annoying to have it as a name. [name]Emmeline[/name] is so lovely…

[name]Emmeline[/name] is my fave between the 2. [name]Emilia[/name] is still a lovely name though!

They are both lovely names, but [name]Emilia[/name] got my vote because [name]Emmeline[/name]'s pronunciation variations bother me a little. It was a hard choice though. The name [name]Emilia[/name] reminded me of [name]Emilia[/name] [name]Clark[/name] who is awesome in Game of Thrones, so I could be a little biased!

I really really like both, but [name]Emmeline[/name] won out for me today.

That’s why I love [name]Emilia[/name], too! Well, I love it for the nn [name]Emmy[/name], and I love it for its tie to A Comedy of Errors, and [name]Shakespeare[/name] in general, but I love that everyone will assume that it’s a different spelling of [name]Amelia[/name]. My great-grandmother’s MN was [name]Amelia[/name], but I honestly can’t stand [name]Amelia[/name], it draws up images of cobwebs and mice in attics and someone saying “duh, duh, duh, uh, uh, uh” all the time, but [name]Emilia[/name] is all [name]Shakespeare[/name] and family for me, I love it. I had hesitations because it sounds so close to [name]Amelia[/name] and I wouldn’t want her to have to keep saying, “Oh, it’s [name]Emilia[/name] with an “E”…” all the time, but today I’ve really been liking [name]Emilia[/name] [name]Katherine[/name] [name]Zoe[/name]/[name]Emilia[/name] [name]Zoe[/name] [name]Katherine[/name], and I think if she went by [name]Emmy[/name], people would realize that it’s [name]Emilia[/name], not [name]Amelia[/name]. Besides, I’ve been loving [name]Emilia[/name] more and more and more over the past couple years, so I think it’s not really if, just when, it’ll get added to my list. At the same time, I’ve really been loving [name]Emmeline[/name] lately…

I love both, and they both fit right in with your other favorites perfectly! I voted for [name]Emilia[/name] because it is a family name (spelled that way) for me too, and it has been a long favorite of mine, whereas [name]Emmeline[/name] just recently moved up my list. I wish I could use [name]Emilia[/name], but my brother already “stole” it.

[name]Don[/name]'t worry about the spelling. I have friends named [name]Sarah[/name] and [name]Erin[/name] and a cousin named [name]Alison[/name] and they constantly have to spell their names and those are standard names. Not to mention my name ([name]Catherine[/name]), which I ALWAYS spell. I don’t mind it, though. It’s worth it to have a name that I like.

[name]How[/name] are you pronouncing [name]Emmeline[/name]? I have always said EMM-(eh)-line (parentheses because it’s such a fast syllable that it’s almost not there), but I noticed pp mentioned it sounding like [name]Emalyn[/name], which is a different sound. I’m not sure I like it as much with that pronunciation.

[name]Emilia[/name] is a family name for me to and would be my first choice, but my cousin beat me to it. So I vote for [name]Emilia[/name]. It’s funny that people mention [name]Amelia[/name]… I pronounce [name]Amelia[/name] differently than [name]Emilia[/name], the former having more of an “ah” sound and [name]Emilia[/name] having more of a “eh” sound. Also, in Spanish they are totally different. (Not that that would necessarily matter to you, OP, but I thought I’d throw it in there. I’ve never met anyone named [name]Amelia[/name], but know quite a few Emilias.

I totally agree about [name]Emilia[/name] and [name]Amelia[/name] being pronounced differently – funny how lots of folks on here seem to find them interchangeable; maybe it’s an accent thing? Funny story: I was at an acquaintance’s house today and she had just received a birth announcement for an [name]Emilia[/name], and she thought it was pronounce EMM-i-[name]LEE[/name]-a (like [name]Emily[/name] with an a at the end). I didn’t really know what to say – interesting how different the real world is from NB.

It was a tough choice at first, but when you mentioned your idea for the [name]Emilia[/name] combo ([name]Emilia[/name] [name]Katherine[/name] [name]Zoe[/name]/[name]Emilia[/name] [name]Zoe[/name] [name]Katherine[/name]), that made my decision for me. [name]Zoe[/name] and [name]Catherine[/name] are my two favorite girls’ names, so I think either arrangement is just about perfect. I wouldn’t even both looking for any other choices.

I love them both but I went with [name]Emmeline[/name]. [name]Emilia[/name] seems more like an MN type of name to me while Emmeliine fits perfectly up front. [name]Emilia[/name] [name]Katherine[/name] [name]Zoe[/name] is gorgeous though! [name]Do[/name] you have an [name]Emmeline[/name] combo picked out yet?

I like both, but I vote for [name]Emilia[/name] since it has such a clear pronunciation. The one thing about [name]Emmeline[/name] is that you will find people pronounce it Leen, line or lynn. I personally prefer the leen pronunciation myself, but just be warned about having to correct people.

@catheyc - I say [name]Emmeline[/name] as [name]Emma[/name]-leen. I understand you with the spellings, though–with names these days, I can assume nearly every name would have to be spelled out! [name]Even[/name] something as straightforward as [name]Isabelle[/name].

@dindlee - I am so with you on [name]Emilia[/name]'s pronunciation! I don’t see them as interchangeable at all, [name]Emilia[/name] sounds completely different from [name]Amelia[/name] to me, but I figure most people say them so close that I could get away with it honoring my great-grandma.

@mega_muffin - well, [name]Catherine[/name]'s still in contention for number 10 on my list, as well as the [name]Emmy[/name] names, too. I still really love [name]Catherine[/name] [name]Eliora[/name], nn [name]Kit/name. I’m not sure what I’d do for an [name]Emmeline[/name] combo–I’ve been thinking of [name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Ruby[/name] or [name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Olive[/name], or maybe [name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Olive[/name] [name]Rue[/name]. I like the idea of something understated and naturey. I am sort of thinking of [name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Luna[/name], too, for the nn [name]Emmy[/name] [name]Lou[/name]/[name]Emma[/name] [name]Lou[/name]/etc… I feel like [name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Olive[/name] is the perfect [name]Emmeline[/name] combo, but I already have [name]Olivia[/name] [name]Wren[/name] [name]Camille[/name] and [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Olive[/name] [name]Jane[/name] on my list, so I’m not too keen on using [name]Olive[/name] again…

I’m not a big fan of [name]Emmeline[/name], however I absolutely love [name]Emilia[/name] nn [name]Mia[/name].

I really adore both, but I decided to pick [name]Emmeline[/name].

[name]Emmeline[/name] is the more sophisticated of the two, while [name]Emilia[/name] seems perhaps more refreshing. [name]Emmeline[/name] sounds like a fairy princess, and it seems like a name that a little girl would adore having. [name]Emilia[/name] has this feeling about it too, but it’s a bit more exotic. Of course, they both have the problem of being mistaken for another name. [name]Emmeline[/name] (if pronounce emma-leen), would probably be misheard as [name]Emily[/name]. People would probably think [name]Emilia[/name] was [name]Amelia[/name]. Regardless, I still love both names and would definitely consider using either of them.

I don’t know why I picked [name]Emmeline[/name] over [name]Emilia[/name]. I guess I’m just in more of an “[name]Emmeline[/name]” mood right now.

Thanks, ladies. I’m closing this down, as I’m moving on to other subjects (wasn’t expecting it to be resurrected!). While neither is making my short list atm, [name]Emmeline[/name] is on my top 20. If I want to have a top 20, which I’m really not sure I do.
