Emilia: Would it always be misspelled?

We [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Emily[/name], but I worry it’s too common. We really like the nickname “[name]Em[/name]” so are now considering [name]Emilia[/name].

[name]Will[/name] it always be misspelled though? [name]Will[/name] people assume it’s [name]Amelia[/name]? Or [name]Emelia[/name]?

She typically would just be referred to as [name]Em[/name], but if you heard “[name]Emilia[/name],” how would you assume it was spelled?

I think [name]Emilia[/name] is really lovely! Its not mainstream, but I don’t think its unheard of. If I heard [name]Emilia[/name], I think I’d get it right. Though I also think [name]Emilia[/name] and [name]Amelia[/name] are pronounced slightly different. “eh” or “ah” difference  <3

I prefer [name]Emilia[/name] to [name]Amelia[/name]. I just like the look of it better, plus [name]Emmy[/name] is an adorable nickname! The names are generally pronounced similarly, but with a slight difference in the beginning sound like the previous commented pointed out. I think it’s common enough that people would get it right, and if not I still don’t imagine it would be a big deal for your daughter. I have also known a little girl who spelled her name like this but pronounced it sort of like a smoosh of [name]Emma[/name]+[name]Leah[/name] or [name]Emily[/name]-ah. I thought it was pretty sounding.

I’ve heard [name]Emilia[/name] pronounced like [name]Emma[/name]-leah or like [name]Amelia[/name] with an E. It’s a beautiful name with a long history, and the girls I’ve known haven’t seemed to have many more problems than anyone else. It’s a real sweet spot name for me–I know a few all over the country of a variety of ages, but not too many. Gorgeous choice.

Reminds me of a story my Italian teacher once told me. He got tired of spelling [name]Giovanni[/name] for everyone, so he started going by [name]John[/name]. And then everyone asked if it was [name]John[/name] or [name]Jon[/name]. So you really can’t win. [name]May[/name] as well pick one you love.

I love [name]Emilia[/name]! I always spell it like this when I have the choice. I think [name]Emelia[/name] is nice, too, but [name]Emilia[/name] always had my vote.
She’ll definitely get it spelled wrong, but I’ve come to the realization, everyone will have their name misspelled and misheard at some point. My name is [name]Lucy[/name] and I’ve gotten called [name]Lindsay[/name] and [name]Lizzie[/name] on more than one occasion. It happens.

I adore [name]Emilia[/name]! I think it depends on how it’s pronounced. Since I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Emilia[/name], I always listen for pronunciation. If I hear something more like EH-mee-lee-ah as opposed to UH-meel-yah, then I’ll probably assume it’s [name]Emilia[/name]. But that’s the only pronunciation I’ve heard lately, so I’m just wondering if I’m hearing wrong. I’m not sure what to say in regards to whether it’ll always be misspelled or not–that’s a fear I have, as well. It’s one of the things keeping me from adding it to my list–in addition to the fact that I like [name]Emmeline[/name] slightly more. I do adore [name]Emilia[/name], though! It’s gorgeous.
