[name_m]Just[/name_m] wondering what people’s thoughts were on either [name_f]Emily[/name_f] or [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]?
We love the classic [name_f]Emily[/name_f] and has been top of our list for years and we [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] it! But we love the relaxed feel of [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]? We don’t really want to give an [name_f]Emily[/name_f] the NN of [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]. Popularity isn’t an issue for me and my OH, it’s just people’s thoughts on the names really
[name_f]Emily[/name_f] is my favorite! It is my daughter’s name. I like [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], but only as a nn for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Eloise[/name_f], etc.
[name_f]Emily[/name_f]! I’ve always found [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] to be whiny and a bit of a spoiled brat, if I’m being honest. I think [name_f]Emily[/name_f]'s charming and sweet and timeless, though, and I love coming across it (the similar [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] is on my own list, and my favorite of the [name_f]Em[/name_f]- names, but I still have room in my heart for the lovely [name_f]Emily[/name_f]!).
[name_f]Emily[/name_f] and [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] are fantastic names, in my opinion. [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] sounds more grown-up than other nicknames. And [name_f]Emily[/name_f] is a beautiful classic with a plenty of nice nicknames.
My vote goes to [name_f]Emily[/name_f], as it’s one of my favourite names.
I like [name_f]Emily[/name_f] a lot more! The name is a timeless classic that will age well with her as she gets older. [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] is too nicknamey [name_f]IMO[/name_f] (but I know 2 girls named [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] - one is about 28, one is 17, and one is 8 or 9), but it just sounds sort of whiny brat-ish. I like 2 of these Ellies, and they are both nice. I know a bunch of [name_f]Emily[/name_f]'s, but right now, I can think of 2 17 year old Emilys, and one 20 year old [name_f]Emily[/name_f]. I like 2 of them. Still, I think [name_f]Emily[/name_f] is a much nicer name! It lets her pick her own nn, while still giving her a formal name. One of the 2 [name_f]Emily[/name_f]'s I like is one of my best friends, and I call her [name_f]Em[/name_f], [name_f]Emmy[/name_f], Mily, basically every [name_f]Emily[/name_f] nn there is, but not [name_f]Ellie[/name_f].
Though [name_f]Emily[/name_f] is more substantial, I think [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] is a great option as well. Between the two, I’d prefer [name_f]Emily[/name_f], although I like [name_f]Eliana[/name_f]/[name_f]Elena[/name_f] nn [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] better than either
I’d go with [name_f]Emily[/name_f]. It’s cute on a little girl but great on a grown woman too. It’s a classic but popular for many, many years for a reason. I like [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] as a nickname but not as a full name. It’s popular but also trendy too. I know 3 [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]'s, 2 [name_f]Emma[/name_f]'s, 2 [name_f]Ella[/name_f]'s and 2 [name_f]Elsa[/name_f]'s. They all start to sound the same to me. I would like it better as a nickname for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] (one [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] is know is an [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]), [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Elena[/name_f], etc… If you name her just [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], it reminds me of my friend growing up who was just [name_f]Kristi[/name_f]. Fine on a little girl or teenager but now in her 30s and in a career, it would be nice for her to have something more formal.
[name_f]Emily[/name_f] is by far the more classic and offers many great nn options too- [name_f]Em[/name_f], [name_f]Emmy[/name_f], [name_f]Milly[/name_f].
[name_f]Ellie[/name_f] is cute, but IMHO a little over done the last decade. It sounds a little nick namey to me too.
Definitely [name_f]Emily[/name_f]; it works for a child and adult. [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] would be a nice nickname for [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], but I’m not sure a grown woman would want be called [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] forever.
