Emily-Love it, don’t love how popular it is, but it’s not a dealbreaker for me
Emmeline-Love it as well, but I worry it doesn’t roll off the tongue as well as [name_f]Emily[/name_f], plus I would use the LINE ending, and feel like it would get mispronounced all the time.
[name_m]Just[/name_m] torn, what are your thoughts? Thanks!
I feel like [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] is just different enough to be gaining popularity, and I don’t like that kind of name. I would go with [name_f]Emily[/name_f] - it’s def cuter to me!
[name_f]Emily[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] will need both the pronunciation and the spelling clarified all the time. And while [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] on it’s own isn’t that high on the charts, when you combine all the alternate spellings, all the other [name_f]Em[/name_f]- names, and all the other -line names, it isn’t super unique either.
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], you can get the best of both worlds & call her [name_u]Emeli[/name_u]. Also, it’s less popular & with the pronounciation you chose, I’d assume it was spelled [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] (or at least, Emmaline).
[name_f]Emily[/name_f] is too popular. She would be [name_f]Emily[/name_f] G. all of her life & I’d have more trouble figuring out how it was spelled than [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] (though, that may be because I’ve seen it spelled 2000+ ways at my 'mentary, middle, & current schools).
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] is pretty but I think [name_f]Emily[/name_f] is absolutely beautiful. It has been used for such a long time that it feels both classic and fresh it may be popular but I feel like that ironically causes people to not appreciate this name at all.
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] feels more current to me. Nothing wrong with [name_f]Emily[/name_f] but it was quite popular in the 90s/00s so feels a bit dated.
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] would be my choice, think about it, the nickname [name_f]Emme[/name_f] / [name_f]Emmy[/name_f] is. so. cute. And likeable. [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] is also really pretty on its own and not overly popular like [name_f]Emily[/name_f] is. I think it has no problem rolling off the tongue.
In the States [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] will be turned into [name_f]Emily[/name_f] 99% of the time and she’ll spend all her time correcting people. [name_u]Or[/name_u] when they see it written they’ll pronounce it LINE (to rhyme with Sweet Caroline).
I absolutely love [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] (LEEN) but it’s something that given where I live, I knew it’d be a nuisance for my daughter.
I think you should use [name_f]Emily[/name_f] as the official name, but [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] can be a nickname. I have a cat named [name_f]Emily[/name_f] and we call her [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] sometimes along with other nicknames.
[name_f]Emily[/name_f]. It is a classic. [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] is fine, but I’m not wild about “line” in names most of the time (Caroline is an exception) and the Emmeline/Adeline type names seem overly used right now.
I love [name_f]Emmaliese[/name_f] though. Nns galore: [name_f]Em[/name_f], [name_f]Emma[/name_f], [name_f]Emmy[/name_f], [name_f]Emily[/name_f], [name_f]Emmylou[/name_f], [name_f]Lise[/name_f], [name_f]Liese[/name_f], [name_f]Liesel[/name_f]. [name_f]Liese[/name_f] is softer than line.
Emmeline for sure! Emily is sweet but I’ve seen it so much it just doesn’t make me feel anything anymore. Emmeline is pretty and fresh, and it has so many cute nicknames.
If you’re from the states, you’d get the -line pronunciation the most! I’d only worry about the -leen pronunciation if you’re in the UK and maybe Australia.
